I know I'm not part of the project (for now), but that looks a touch unrealistic to me... too many low-latitude fjords.

where's my conland? found it, it's attached to another piece of land...

too be honest this map looks rather unnatural, everything is in a circle, is the centre the north pole? Also the continents are rather spaced apart... is that natural?

I couldn't find mine. Not even attached to anything... :cry:

Oh well, I like the map. Interesting result for too many cooks. :mrgreen:
I like the way the ones in the middle make a ring. Could create interesting results? (who wants naturalistic, anyway :P )
It was about time I changed this.

I found everyone's apart from Zompist's, mine, Zju's, Bofosh's, and Alassion's. Explanation please?

I ran out of time before doing the last few islands (it was dinnertime and I wanted to post the map). In recompense, you can put the islands anywhere. I'll add a grid to the map after making any changes people suggest.

Then I'd like mine to go at the left end of Newt's little island chain.

My first knee-jerk reaction was to declare this map unnatural like a couple of the previous posters, but the more I've looked at it the more I've been able to see where the continental landmasses might have come apart as some past supercontinent broke up. I could certainly stand to see a few adjustments, but overall I'd like to congradulate Zompist on a job well done!

Edit: One potential point of interest is that without a large landmass over either pole, there's likely to be less polar ice, which would generally mean a warmer, wetter world.

Well, I was going to put my continent at the north pole anyway (saying that the main map ends at 80° or so), so that could take care of that. :)

Also, FWIW, it seems like everyone was into sunken river beds... it's like the whole planet had a significant rise in sea level. So maybe no continents at the poles makes sense...

I suggest viewing Mark's map as an overlay in Google Earth, to get a good sense of how it looks projected onto a globe. It's pretty nice. I think adding a continent to the north pole would be a good idea, and I'd also suggest moving some of the smaller southern islands north a bit, as they are pretty far south and quite cold as they stand.

Also, my continent looks well-positioned to get a big fat desert. Hooray!

Grid is a good idea... I agree that the amount of tropical fjords is rather odd. However, if the recent sea rise be the case then it would make perfect sense that there be a large amount of islands and ragged coastlines, glacial or not. Maybe there was a large amount of volcanism which threw enough carbon into the atmosphere to make the sea levels rise? It would yield some lovely basalt wastelands.

Can mine be in the middle more? I'd rather think my island should be cold like north-pole.
That or it be placed where it can be a desert one.

I want my island right in the middle of that central sea, because it looks kinda funny having that ring of continents and circleish sea in the middle.

That's if no one else cares. I am open to it being located anywhere else as well.

So how does possession of each bit of land work? Do we get to choose where we want to start our species/culture? Or are we relegated to our own creations? If so, does that mean I have ti populate a whole continent instead of just an island?

Oh, good, I was not liking the idea of having such a big land mass.

I don't mind where my island goes. Put it anywhere that looks most appropriate.

Come to think of it, I'd expect Lyra's continent to be much larger: its currently pretty small compared to Eurasia
Wait... does it? *checks*
Yeah, it looks like it is. check this out. Overlay of earth and CCCworld.

I made a few revisions:

* added a north polar continent (assume that the map only goes up to 85° or so)
* made Lyra's, Torco's, and Ars's lands a little bigger
* restored the smaller islands
* rearranged the peripheral continents so they weren't in such straight lines
* tightened up the distances a little overall (so not everyone's in the tundra)

Ahzoh, I moved your peninsula to what might be desert— I'm not sure if that's what you meant.

Wouldn't you have to use an equal-area projection for that sort of comparison to be valid?

I'd have to for that comparison to be rigorous: as it stands I chose continents in roughyl the same latitudes... conworlding is not an exact science :P

Since the largest continent isn't as big as it was planned to be, and since it's a little weird that the continents are equally spaced out, have you considered joining two or three of them together?
