laref "to drink coffee" with likely use of this as a metaphor for other drinks with a similar eye-opening effect such as energy drinks if used in the modern world. The /pom/ and /ref/ are direct cognates.

Tautisca; nau "ship" from PIE *neH2-u-. There is no specific term for an ocean-going ship - any ship is by definition supposed to be able to go out to the sea, otherwise it would be a boat (nauca).

That isn't the sort of concept that the speakers of Proto-rəgyam (or ciub'õk if you want to be politically correct) have...

(Seriously, this is a concept that a single person came up with for a book.)

I want to use
http://pabappa.com/pics/wrong-way-salmon2b.jpg
but I dont have a stable word for "wrong" right now.

Poswa:

fufšep "stubborn", from tiu fučip "to self-teach a goal" ... that is, to have a goal and be one's own guide (teacher) in which goal to pursue and how to get there. Like most verbs ending in -p, this is reflexive. Thus one says Fufšefo "I'm stubborn", Fufšefe "you're stubborn", Fufšefa "He's stubborn", and so on with various agents.

brapfos "to block someone's path" ... refers to being stubborn with respect to *other* people's goals.

÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷

Pabappa:

tisep "stubborn", an exact cognate of the Pabappa word. However, this is a reflexive verb, meaning that it appears in the present tense as tissa, which is homophonous with "frog". Even though there is no confusion possible here ... the word for frog would need a suffix of its own to be the predicate of any sentence ... I may have the Pabaps use a folk etymology here and replace the whole concept of stubbornness with an attribute of frogs, and use it with modifiers such as saying
Pispada pappi tissa pisa.
The judge is a tough punisher (lit: a punishment frog).

Without the folk etymology, the sentence would make more sense without pisa "is (a)" at the end:

Pispada pappi tissa.
The judge sentences stubbornly.

Proto-rəgyam speakers did not have buttons of that sort, but as the historical meaning of escutcheon referred to a shield or emblem carrying a coat of arms, and the Tshyak-speakers' (who to them are foreign enemies that at the time were in the process of taking their land and either driving them into the hills or reducing them to landless peasants at best and slaves at worst) nobility employed similar symbols on flags and shields, so they referred to them as:
