Post your conlang's phonology

As the title suggest, post your conlang's phonology, particularly in the IPA (though it doesn't really matter). I thought this would be an interesting way to compare everyone's phonology, and even see what other conlangs hold the same sounds our own do.

Here's mine, for example:
Consonants

Vowels

Diphthongs

P.S. Yes, this is a chance for you to brag about your conlang's phonological inventory. Get with it! :)

Phonologies are much more than phoneme inventories. I think you mean to say "post your conlang's phoneme inventory", so that's what I'll do. However, allophony in many of these languages is rather extensive, so consonants not in the phoneme inventory can appear on the phonetic level. (Tharu, for example, has 12 consonants phonemically, but ~30 on a more phonetic level.)

edit: okay the font in code tags sucks shit on this board but i can't be bothered to format all these tables for it so whatever

Kànnow:

It makes more sense to analyze palatalization as part of the vowel, not part of the consonant, but I didn't do that here. Also, /pʲa/ and /pja/ contrast as [pʲja pɪ̯a].

Yaufułti:
Phonemic vowels:

l ɬ ɮ dl ɟʎ gɫ ɫ ʎ ʎ̝̊ ʎ̝
j
pʲ bʲ ɸʲ βʲ fʲ vʲ θʲ ðʲ pfʲ bvʲ
i don't make phonetically simple phonologies... however, at least Yaufułti doesn't have nasals. Western Yaufulti, which I made up today, does. And as a result, it has more consonants and the vowels are all also available in nasalised form....

Phonemic vowels:

Code: Select all

i u
e a
Phonetic vowels:

Code: Select all

i ĩ u ũ
e ẽ ə ə̃ o õ
ɛ ɛ̃ ɑ ɑ̃

l tɬ dɮ j
m ɱ n ɲ ŋ
pʲ bʲ pfʲ bvʲ ɸʲ βʲ fʲ vʲ mʲ
Furthermore, ɕ/ʃ and ʑ/ʒ are in free variation in Western Yaufulti (the ɕ variants are more common) and thus its phonetic inventory could be considered larger than this.
But y'know, maybe this is just an obnoxious way of presenting it.

  /tS/ [tS] All ch

The phonemes /b/, /v/, /tS/, and /e/ are uncommon. /v/ occurs exclusively in foreign borrowings.

All vowels have non-phonemic nasal allophones which manifest before the nasals /n/ and /m/.

Syllable formation

Valid syllables may be structured as: V, VC, CV, and CVC

Allowable onsets may include all consonants save /v/, and the following consonant clusters: /ks/, /dr/, /xr/, /hr/, /tr/, and /tl/

Any vowel or diphthong may function as a valid syllable nucleus.

Allowable codas include all consonants except for the following: /h/, /b/, /w/, /v/. No consonant clusters may serve as a syllable coda.

The end.

Yes, that is a four-way contrast between apico-alveolar, apico-postalveolar (i.e., retroflex), lamino-dental, and lamino-palatal.

This isn't a very interesting thing to ask. Creating a phoneme inventory is the first logical step in creating a conlang, one of the easiest, and therefore a place where it's very easy to get to and then stop because moving forward is harder. The phoneme inventory isn't interesting in and of itself unless you have enough of a grammar to use those phonemes meaningfully.

I'm not sure thirty-plus phoneme inventories would be the most interesting thing I could post anyway.

The king of all phoneme inventory threads.

The end is nigh.
Indeed. What's the deal with phonology? It's pretty uninteresting in my opinion. Especially a phoneme inventory. A phoneme inventory is to a conlang what the cover art is to an album. Curiously, I've never seen a single "Post your album's cover art" thread on the music forums I frequent.

And syntax generally goes unthought of except from a short "SOV, prepositions, nom-acc". Alas, the world we live in.

Meh, depends on your POV. I find the phonologies very interesting, although yes, they are overdone on the board.

ripped straight from Arrernte i presume. :P It's also not clear whether they're unaspirated voiceless plosives or voiced plosives. Technically could be either, even when you consider Auslangs in general.

also <ö> isn't a very good choice for a back vowel.

Damn, I've been reading the Cambridge language survey of Australian languages and I've been wanting to do a conlang based on Aboriginal languages too. O well, I guess there can be two....right?

I have seen {ö} for /O/ in some phonetic transcriptions. For example Wikipedia uses it in discussing Andalusian Spanish, and I believe they carried that over from some previously existing tradition.

First thought: ooh, minimalist. I assume the name is an exonym.
Second thought: Wait, is this a joke?
Third thought: No, it's too almost-vaguely-bizarro-plausible to be a joke.

Phoneme inventories are boring as hell (although I wouldn't say that phonologies as a whole are), but here:

South Eresian:

Code: Select all

m n
p t ts tɬ tʃ k q ʔ
pʼ tʼ tsʼ tɬʼ tʃʼ kʼ qʼ
s ʃ
w j
ɾ
l

a e i o

Ajkospi:

Code: Select all

m n N
p t k ?
s S X h
w j
l

i ɨ u e o æ ɑ
Aquenandi (heehee, my first conlang):

Code: Select all

m n ɲ ŋ
p b t d c ɟ k g
f v s z ʃ ʒ x χ h
w j
r
l

i ɨ u e ə o æ ɑ
Nalchast:

Code: Select all

m n ŋ ŋʷ
p b t d tɬ dɮ tʃ dʒ k g kʷ gʷ ʔ
f v s z ʃ ʒ x ɣ xʷ ɣʷ h
w j
r
l

i ɨ u e o æ ɑ
Looking at them side by side, I really like the alveolar/postalveolar contrast in fricatives (which I already knew), an r/l distinction and the same seven vowels; of course, Ajkospi vowels are nothing like that in practice (whoo harmony) and my most important 'lang by far, South Eresian, only has four.

Oh, alright, I might as well.

Code: Select all

m p b
        θ ð
n t d ɬ ɮ r
ɲ ʂ ʐ j
  k g
  kʷ gʷ w
        χ ʁ

i u
e o
a ɑ
(/ʂ ʐ/ are apical postalveolar, never subapical; /r/ is in free variation between [r] and [ɾ].)

I've got allophony and stress rules, but you don't get to see them because you insisted on only asking for phoneme inventory. Nyah nyah.
