To make a long story short, first it debuccalized to a glottal stop, and later there was an unusual change in which a glottal stop followed by /u/ and a second vowel was replaced with /p/.

The vowel <y> /ɨ/ is mostly epenthetic. In one dialect it is inserted to break consonant clusters like the one in Tnaap. But I think another dialect could solve the cluster in a different way:
/tnaakʷ/
Dialect A: [tɨˈna͡ɔp]
Dialect B: [tɾ̃a͡ɔp]
Since not every dialect inserts <y> in that case, I think the best spelling would be Tnaap.
