Natlang time:

/m n ŋ/
/p b t d t͡ʃ d͡ʒ k g/
/f v s z ʃ ʒ χ ɦ/
/ʋ l r ɹ j/

/ɪ i iː ʏ y yː u uː/

/ɑ aː/
/iʊ̯ yʊ̯ uɪ̯/
/ɛɪ̯ eːʊ̯ ʌʏ̯ ɔɪ̯ oːɪ̯/
/ɑɪ̯ ɑʊ̯ aːɪ̯/
/ɛ/ occurs almost exclusively in stressed syllables and /ə/ almost exclusively in unstressed ones.
Most long vowels are pronounced as slightly centralising diphthongs.
/d͡ʒ g ʒ ɹ iː yː uː ɛː œː ɔː/ occur mostly in loanwords but are phonemic nonetheless.
If ə is followed by another vowel, an epenthetic [n] is inserted in between.
Stress is contrastive.

Most Flemish dialects retain the x/ɣ distinction. This is mostly my idiolect.

You're right - I missed that; I was basing it based on the retaining of initial /f/ and /s/ voicing (it wasn't clear from what you wrote, at a glance, as to whether f/v and s/z were actual phonemic distinctions).

The distinction between f/v and s/z is very marginal. There are a few minimal pairs (Fin "finn" versus vin "fin", saai "boring" versus zaai "(I) sow"), but those are very rare.

Haplogy, may I ask you where you're from?

Attempt at PIE orthography:

/*m *n/ <m n>
/*p *t *ḱ *k *kʷ/ <p t c k kw>
/(*b) *d *ǵ *g *gʷ/ <b' d' j' g' gw'>
/*bʰ *dʰ *ǵʰ *gʰ *gʷʰ/ <b d j g gw>
/*s *h₁ *h₂ *h₃/ <s h x x'>
/*r *l/ <r l>
/*y *w/ <i u>
/*i *u *e *o *eː *oː (*a)/ <i u e o ē ō a>
Here <'> merely indicates markedness.

Schleicher's fable as per Byrd:

Using a slightly different analysis -syllable final /ʔ ɴ h/ is /p t k m n ŋ s h/. For the sake of summary, all prenasalised consonants, diphthongs and affricates are treated as made up of their constituent sounds. Also, judging from your grammar I think you mean /kɑw pʂøt/ instead of /kɑ pʂø/.

Zjaŋ

/p b t d c ɟ k ɡ qʰ ʔ/ <p b t d ť ď k g q ɂ>

/ɛ ɛˤ œˤ ʌˤ ɔˤ/ <ea ḛa o̰a ḛa o̰a>
/æˤ/ <a̰>
/a ɑ ɑˤ/ <a a a̰>

I mean /kɑ pʂø/ - /kɑ pʂø/ comes from /kɑw pʂøt/, but certain common words went irregular reduction so that their vowel's quality is no longer predictable due to the loss of final consonants.

Post subject:  Re: Romanization challenge thread

I am almost thinking of using the above orthography as being the direct transliteration of the native script the language is written in, with the script having been created for a language where all the coda-reduction had not taken place in. The orthography I have been currently using is too close to the actual realization of the language, in that it represents the codas as having been reduced. Note that this may have some consequences like p and m being used in places where they wouldn't be when exactly following the principles of this orthography, due to those sounds having been found in older forms of the language.
