CCCP, not СССР.

As of now, I haven't finished putting the data into Celestia yet, I only have the first 7 planets (and no moons for the outer ones).

Where did you put the CCC star? Did you use an existing star?

I made a new star, and stuck it 74 light years away from Earth.

Code: Select all

300600 "CCC star" {
	RA      245.3    # in fractional degrees, 0-360
	Dec     25.4    # in fractional degrees, -90 to + 90
	Distance 74
	SpectralType "G2V"
	AbsMag 4.65
}

Copy the stuff in the code box in my previous post into a .stc file and put it somewhere in the extras folder.

Also note:
I have downloaded a pack that includes a lot more stars that can be found here: http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/creat ... _1.4.0.zip
It includes around 2 million stars from the Tycho catalog, while Celestia on its own only comes with around 100,000 stars or so from the Hipparcos catalog.

74 ly seems rather close to Earth... if we take this thing into the space opera era, Sol will be in the neighborhood.

Which is OK, I guess, but if insane golems take over the Earth in AD 2800, I'll hold you responsible.

If I move it too far away, then there won't be as many stars nearby due to the natural star charts being (roughly) centered around Earth. I also have 800,000 stars added to the Small Magellanic Cloud, I could move the CCC system there, though then the Milky Way would feature predominantly in the sky, and they could run afoul of the Ancaron Empire...

A location in the SMC sounds pretty cool.

However, redoing all those maps sounds like a lot of work. Unless the program has a better method for producing a star map from a given point?

It's relatively simple to make the map, at least to the point that I have reached, as all I do is point the camera in a specific direction and take pictures.
