Re: Reverse Romanization Challenge Thread
You predominantly post huge phonologies with obtuse Romanizations and nothing else, which simply aren't that interesting to many people. What's interesting is allophony, diachronic phonology, and morphophonology. Or leaving phonology altogether and getting into the more interesting parts of the grammar. What's the alignment, do certain verbs take agents marked as obliques, to what grammatical categories does it assign the different arguments of a ditransitive verb, and what happens when you make a causative of a transitive (if it's even possible, and does it use the same causative as intransitives)? Does it use adpositions, or affixes on a verb, or an extensive case system, or intransitive verbs in serialization, or relational nouns, or several of those?Birdlang wrote:Why are you people mean to people who have been conlanging for 10 years!!!ObsequiousNewt wrote:It's his version of sarcasm. So far, you've done little to prove to others you know what you're doing and not just throwing a dart at the IPA and seeing what happens. Which is pretty much how you start conlanging, and that's fine, but people here will get sick of it quickly, and when people have asked for deeper stuff you've ignored them or gotten offended. For this thread in particular, it might be helpful to consider the saying "a piece of writing [or in this case, orthography] isn't done when you can't add any more, it's done when you can't cut any more." That's not to say everything should have 8 graphemes, but that most of them should be fairly well thought-through and not just a hodgepodge of extended Latin letters, or people are going to get tired of it reaallly quickly. Especially given how often you've been posting new orthographies.

Re: Reverse Romanization Challenge Thread
Here's another couple of tips that will help you not tick off the community as much: don't make four posts in a row if you can help it (better to consolidate them into one post if you can, if you double/triple/quadra-post a long post for god's sake delete its content, and if you're quoting a long post just to make a comment or two on it, well, don't, and if you do, replace (most of) the content with a ~snip~ or suchlike.
Do these three things, and you will stop appearing to spam up the board so much.
Also, stop expecting people to do your romanizations, or to do any romanizations sequentially, or to only romanize something once. We romanize what we want, when we want, here.

So wait, are people trying to be mean or are they unwittingly so? Because those are kind of mutually exclusive.

Birdlang, you've been given some useful advice on this page. That's not mean, that's helpful. I'll add some more: don't dominate the discussion; don't be whiny; don't try to mess up a thread intended for people to have fun.
