Still working on this, but I think it's an improvement on the Omya that I put up last year.
I don't think there will end up being more than about 500 or so logograms.

Re: Logosyllabic, epigraphic...and yes, square-ish
Looks good. As you say yourself, reminds one of Maya glyphs. Really fit for inscribing a stele or a temple wall.
Re: Logosyllabic, epigraphic...and yes, square-ish
I love this. So simple, yet aesthetically pleasing and the logograms are still wonderfully evocative.

Yes. That's the idea. I want it to evoke the look and feel of Mayan while not necessarily functioning in a similar way.hwhatting wrote:As you say yourself, reminds one of Maya glyphs.
Thank you. I started this a few months ago, but did not post it until after seeing your 2L Monumental Style Conscript and being inspired to share. Mine is far less artistic but I appreciate your comments.Anguipes wrote:So simple, yet aesthetically pleasing and the logograms are still wonderfully evocative.

Mixed logographic/syllabic systems are the best! This looks great; I can't wait to see more logograms!

It looks like my script for Xǔngpìng, except mine was based on a 4x4 grid IIRC.

I wholeheartedly agree.kodé wrote:Mixed logographic/syllabic systems are the best!

I don't remember seeing that one...sounds interesting.Qwynegold wrote:It looks like my script for Xǔngpìng, except mine was based on a 4x4 grid IIRC.

I posted about it ages ago, but the only picture files I can find now are these: I do have this script written down on a notepad, but my scanner doesn't work with this computer.masako wrote:I don't remember seeing that one...sounds interesting.Qwynegold wrote:It looks like my script for Xǔngpìng, except mine was based on a 4x4 grid IIRC.

Yeah...I can see a resemblance.

Hmmm, interesting.
What I like is that you can encode the glyph as binary string. Not counting the dot inside blank space you have 2^12 possible combination of 3x3 glyph. It totals to 4096.
Anyone know how to count the possible combinations that considers dot(s) inside blank space?

@Qwynegold,
I forgot to mention that I have been trying a handwritten version and that seems to be developing similarly to the image you displayed.
@Kereb,
No worries...as long as the beast isn't summoned, all will be well.

Try not to overthink it. The total number of possible glyphs is far less important to me than a functional and aesthetically pleasing system.Yaali Annar wrote:Hmmm, interesting.

Pick a glyph and give it a meaning...help me use these to make logograms...
More charts to follow.

40 looks to me like a big guy standing atop a little guy, so how about 40 - push down; oppress?

48. kowtow, prostrate self
also I should mention: while I can see that each of these shapes appears in the same eight positions, I personally find the row 25-32 particularly difficult to tell apart from one another

I did have a bizarrely similar (to the original poster's) accident about four years ago, in which I slipped over a cookie and somehow twisted my ankle so far that it broke

33, greet. It looks like a fat guy waving hi.

(Also, can 57 be 'threesome'?)
Re: Logosyllabic, epigraphic...Come and help pick meanings!
just out of curiosity, does this shape exist in the bank at all?
i know it's too symmetrical to use in all eight positions but it feels like it should mean something

That's always a problem with Masako's scripts.Kereb wrote:I personally find the row 25-32 particularly difficult to tell apart from one another

in keeping with Nae's assertion that every conscripter eventually accidentally re-invents the swastika, have this:

Problem? How 'bout feature...yeah, I like the idea of it being a feature instead of a problem. Let's go with that.WeepingElf wrote:That's always a problem with Masako's scripts.

Thanks guys. I'll post another chart tomorrow.
