Unlike the 19th century when there was fewer fat people?
Re: ZBB member photos, part 5. (Something for the weekend, s
It is a triumph of the socialist cause that, in contradistinction to the 19th century, fat people can now be found accross the whole of the British social spectrum. No longer is gout solely the preserve of the bourgeoisie!jmcd wrote:Unlike the 19th century when there was fewer fat people?
(Also, there's probably rather less claret these days.)

We're in the middle of the worst recession in years. How on earth are jobs relevant? Honestly, get a grip man.Thry wrote:What about jobs.

What the fuck? The recession is precisely why we don't get jobs. That's kind of the point.

I plan to deal with the recession by hiding in China until the worst is over.

But thanks to the sheer amount of gingo-ish guiris here I can still get a decent PG Tips.
It was about time I changed this.

@ Dewrad (or any other of the resident Brits): How much is a yard of ale in liters? I looks like quite a lot.
Re: ZBB member photos, part 5. (Something for the weekend, s
I think it's about two pints, so a bit over a litre? Wikipedia says about 1.4 litres or two and a half pints, which sounds about right to me. I don't think it's a standard measure, really.hwhatting wrote:@ Dewrad (or any other of the resident Brits): How much is a yard of ale in liters? I looks like quite a lot.
I've never actually seen one myself, I don't think. They're not exactly commonplace, at least not anywhere I've lived. We had our own "Sussex half", as in "I'll only have a half", which basically means around two thirds of a pint. It's a bit like a "country mile".
Re: ZBB member photos, part 5. (Something for the weekend, s
Thanks! That's indeed quite a lot to drink in one go.
Re: ZBB member photos, part 5. (Something for the weekend, s
Yeah, our yard glass is just under three pints.hwhatting wrote:Thanks! That's indeed quite a lot to drink in one go.

A couple days ago we went up to see the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. The place is a small but fertile local river delta near the little hamlet of Mt. Vernon, WA, where America's largest commercial tulip grower has many millions of bulbs planted in many dozens of acres of fields that you can drive by, or indeed get out and walk amongst. In places, brilliant colors stretch off almost to the horizon.
First picture is one of the six major fields that were currently in bloom as of Sunday.
In the second picture is pharazon and me, in front of part of the Roozengaarde display garden.
(And when mid-April comes, you have never seen such dinky little country roads in the middle of nowhere suffer mile after mile of stop-and-go traffic. Rural Washington eighty miles north of the city, but on a nice-weather Sunday in peak season, the exit lane of the interstate gets backed up for a mile.)
Note for locals: it's still on, so go see it! The bloom season is still at its peak, and they are open 7 days a week.

I also live in a region with a lot of these. But unfortunately, the rice paddy right next to my apartment has no such tulips.

Ooh, tulips. Reminds me a bit of when I visited the Keukenhof a long, long, long time ago.
And both you and pharazon don't look bad at all, Rad. Though you do look a bit older than I thought... or maybe the cue that pharazon was in university doing graduate-related stuff led me to a conclusion that he was much younger. I dunno.
