I did not lol :?
I did

I feel vindicated to know that fart humour is incredibly ancient.

Why, it even predates my arrival on the board!

I'm tired of it. I won a couple of times now, and I can say in the end, it's just luck. Tell you what: let's start a separate thread when pandemic III comes out.

Now, what were we talking about?

I'm glad you asked! We were talking about a remake of The Thing using G.I. Joe action figures.

I found this article about internet Trolls to be rather interesting and not nearly so banal as many other conventional press stories about the culture (I came very close to putting that between "scare quotes") have been.

It seemed to me the author misinterpreted much of what he was hearing from Fortuny as fact when he was likely just messing with him.

Lore Sjöberg explores the topic of morality in role-playing games. Tolkien is mentioned. Browse the archives for more Monster Manual comics.

I missed the Parade of Nations during the Opening Ceremony, but the Internet still managed to inflict Ralph Lauren's American team uniforms on me. Sneaky gorram Internet.

Athlete says sports steroids turned him from a woman to a man.

Supposedly one factor in all the world-record swimmers this year -- aside from doping, of course -- is the design of the pool. (In parallel news, American sensation Michael Phelps is amassing a record haul of gold medals.)

Lin Miaoke, the adorable smiling pixie featured in the opening ceremonies, was lip-synching. Shocking! (A more fascinating detail of the story is that the cute girl was apparently substituted in at the specific request of a CCP official.)

China fills unused seats with cheer squads.

Sadly, this post is not so Olympics-related.

I've just been rediscovering the magical magic that is Olde English and thought I should share. Particular favorites are Gym Class, Mutant Superheroes, and Snapple.

Olympics: I'm not racist. Some of my best friends are slant-eyes.

"Published pictures show the world champion [Spanish basketball team] dressed in Olympic kit standing on a basketball court marked with a Chinese dragon. All the players are pulling the skin back at the side of their eyes.

"I want to say that we have a great respect for the Orient and their peoples. Some of my best friends in Toronto are of Chinese origin," Calderon, who plays for Canada's Toronto Raptors team, said in a message posted on his website."

ITN Reporter Arrested in China

"China has repeatedly pledged to allow foreign media freedoms to do their work during the Games, but have come under criticism for continuing to stop them from reporting on sensitive issues. This footage shows ITN reporter, John Ray being arrested by police in an area south of the National Stadium."

Also, at the end of the video, a link to watch some North American's protesting for a free Tibet.

EDIT:
IN addition, the only reason this story isn't entitled "John McCain is a dancing queen" is because of BBC impartiality.

Ahh, I heard about this on the radio this morning. Quite frankly, I am not shocked.

My favourite is the one player claiming the sponsor just kept insisting on that stupid gesture. Sounds sort of like bullshit to me... could Seur really have PR wonks that clueless?

In non-Olympic news, George W. Bush chides Russia for its unjustified military action against Georgia. The Kremlin seems unimpressed; I wonder why that might be.

I keep wondering why the US wants to support Georgia more than Russia.

I mean, I know that they're both our allies, and that Georgia is a pro-western and pro-nato country, but aren't the Russians the ones who have the nukes? It seems like IMO, if we ever got in another war (God forbid), you would definitely want to be on the Russian side.

However, there may just be some other reason that I'm not seeing here. What do you think?

US policy since 2001 has been to assert unilateral supremacy, which included attempting to project power into Central Asia and encircle Russia, while the Russians have since 2001 been working as best they could to counter this. So Bush's stance is completely predictable. All parties are trying to make the two countries out as allies, but I don't think it's really so.

From the London Review of Books, an excellent summation of why the pop cultural picture of Pythagoras is likely complete fiction.

I’d like to teach the world to sing.

Probably only gsandi and Legros really remember this, though. Maybe Legros even bought the record. No, it’s the exact opposite of realpolitik.

I remember seeing that ad in the early Eighties. That was from '71? Huh.
