Just a somewhat humorous vignette I wrote as a joke about Viktor going on about mansions and servants, set vaguely in my conworld:
Mr. Karushti[1] lounged in his handmade leather chair as he stared out the wall-spanning window at his vast manor. In the distance dozens of farm workers were hauling wheat from the fields and loading it into trucks. A lush forest, yellow and brown in the midst of autumn, bounded the plots of farmland. Between the fields and his mansion sat a pond some twenty meters across, surrounded on all sides by artificial creaks. A fountain the center blasted a geiser of glissening water, startling a frog perched on the edge.
Fine as all this may be, Karushti knew it would become unbearably cold in the coming winter. Already he was ordering his many servants to began packing his bags for his winter home in the outskirts of Aakura City[2].
"Master, we have finished packing your first truckload of luggage," said his faithful manservant Rhemas.
"Excellent, I hope to depart by next week."
"As you wish," said Rhemas, "Permission to speak freely?"
"Granted."
"I don't wish to alarm you, but rumor has it that the Terps and their syndicalist allies are reaching Aakura City."
"I have given my due to Europa Security and I have no doubts they will adequately defend us."
Karushti dismissed Rhemas and returned to admiring the gorgeous fountain. His eyes were following the motion of a duck swimming through one of the creeks. Soon it would depart for the south just as he would. He worried for a moment whether his retinue of servants was up to the task of keeping this manor safe. Reports of tenant uprisings had become commonplace and Terpish militias were encroaching steadily into Europan territory. He made a note to expand his private security force here before departing. He rotated his chair to the right, facing a broad wall with a holoprojecter at its base.
"Holovision, activate," he said. A streamer of light emerged from the projector covering the wall in a bluish glow. The sinewy Thasteb Computing logo appeared in bright yellow in the middle as a synthesized sting played.
"Show me the latest news from from Europa Security." Pixels washed across the pane of light before coalescing into the image of a blonde anchorwoman sitting at a table. The video began to play:
"And the campaign in Nhaskure[3] continues to degenerate as Terpish-backed rebels contine to gain ground. The outlawed Nhaskure Labor Federation has declared its intent to hand the city over to FAC if its general strike succeeds."
Karushti grimaced. "Any reports of uprisings or Terpish attacks near Ishtenkhe[4]?" Another wave of pixels washed across the screen.
"No such reports found," the holovision said in a monotone.

Just a picture of small city I was drawing today. I was experimenting with giving it a regularish grid pattern that nonetheless had some complications. I also gave it a mote since I figured it developed out of some sort of fort.

Crude urban planning as an afternoon engagement
I've often dabbled in something similar. My city plans are usually inspired by Philadelphia and exist in some vague fantasy wherein I am let loose to craft my own metropolis.
Below is one that I created recently. It was, sadly, created in Microsoft Paint and as such is inelegant and riddled with inconsistencies, errors and mistakes. I do wish that I knew of a program specially suited to dalliances in urban planning. What is available probably have more features and a far greater price than I want.
The plan is a simple rectilinear, though accidentally nearly a square one, grid with with several wider avenues extending inward from the outer boundary boulevards as well as some nearer to the center of the city, serving partly to delineate four city squares. Several sections are further served by an auxiliary grid of very small 'lanes', which I envision as being purely pedestrian streets, based upon places like Elfreth's Alley. The large, open sections near the center square are meant for major civic and other public buildings.
And excllent example of the problems arising from the confluence of my poor artistry and Paint's sparse features is that the squares between the innermost corner of each outer square and the central circulating avenues. They are supposed to be aligned with the diagonal avenues, but they are in fact rather badly misaligned.

Erik improvised a piano piece as I improvised lyrics. Enjoy his piano skills and my sweetly false voice as you hear the exciting story about the Pokémon master Peter from Kansas.

Telèmor is a non-diachronic romlang with some Japanese, Germanic, and Slavic vocabulary and influences. I don't have the patience for sound changes and diachronics, and I don't know enough of any of the other Romance languages to viably know what's possible in a series of sound changes.Skomakar'n wrote:Most likely.schwhatever wrote:Does Telèmor speak a romlang?
Meh, I don't think it's anything special...Jacqui wrote:I love the pronunciation of Telemor.

It's very reminiscent of Romanian, you know, with the whole de, ş and ţ's. Hell, even if I translate what you've written at the top of the notes (Bancaro Naţiunalor de Fedèraţio Telémor) into Romanian it looks pretty damn similar -vampireshark wrote:Telèmor is a non-diachronic romlang with some Japanese, Germanic, and Slavic vocabulary and influences. In limba romana:
Banca Naţională a Federaţiei Telemor
And en Español:
Banco Nacional de la Federación Telemor
& Français:
Banque nationale de la Fédération Telemor
And mon limbată: (lol)
Banca Naţiănal-a Telemaún Federáşe (Using loanwords only)
Don't worry, I'm not criticising your conlang. I like it too - it looks great. Definitely has given me some ideas of how my conlang should look

Telèmor is, I think, a nice example of a conlang created for a certain style or aesthetic rather than worrying over realism.
Also, I'm on a banknote! This makes me feel happy inside
