A conversation in #isharia (irrelevant bits snipped out):

Code: Select all

<ObsequiousNewt> [ˈæktɻ=]
<Rhetorica> pfft, showoff
<ObsequiousNewt> So get XCompose
<Rhetorica> I'm on Ϝιndows, ObsequiousNewt.
<ObsequiousNewt> laaaaame
<Rhetorica> Not when you need Photoshop it isn't.
<ObsequiousNewt> nah
<ObsequiousNewt> use the GIMP
<Rhetorica> I'm sorry, that's not a program.
<Rhetorica> That is an open wound shaped like an ELF binary.

Seriously, though, Photoshop and Office 2010 are basically the only reasons I keep an installation of Windows XP in a virtual machine and I curse every time I have to use that lame-ass thing – at 2 GB, my computer lacks the memory to run a VM reasonably fast.

However, since I mostly only do minor editing jobs of photos, I get by reasonably these days with the GIMP (which, unlike PS CS3, has a wonderful tool to remove blots of dust and such with a pattern synthesized from the surroundings of the selection) and Darktable (which acts as a replacement for Lightroom).

For me, it's League of Legends, Worms World Party, and anything else that, despite all my efforts, refuses to run under Wine.

CS5 added that (observe), along with content-aware deletion of selections.

I want the GIMP to be a good program, I really do, and every year or so I force myself to do things with it, but it's a trainwreck of bad UI design theory trapped in the early nineties. (Who in their right mind would ever need a selection rectangle indicating the edges of the current layer? You only need that when arranging stuff in large documents, which is a tiny minority of usage cases! Don't copy PaintShop Pro's terrible defaults! They're terrible!)

It was in the context of reincarnation, whether the reincarnee would have any sort of human viewpoint while being a shrew (this is the "camera"), or whether they would just be a shrew, have shrew thoughts, and be scared by shrew-scaring things.

How is that pronounced? Or do all those diacritics cancel each other out?
They work in concert to indicate metallic voicing.
OF COURSE. How could I miss that?
And if you layer on more diacritics (L̸̶̡̨͕͇̦̤͇͗ͮͭ̿ͫi̙̦͓̦͙̪̣͉̾̀̾ͮ̒́̕ͅk̷ͭͨͤ̓́͊͏͏̺̻̺̯e̸̩̯̖̟͇̱̙̗̦͍̯̹̰̩̳̒̒̒̂̕͢͡ͅ ̘̦̫̳̰͙̪̺̊̽̏̊̔͐̀ͭͣ͒̌͌̓̿̾ͪ͢t̢̡͉̝̭͍͔̬̞͌̐̏̍̒ͪ́͝ͅh̵̛̛̗̰̮͎̬̞͂̋̒ͭ͋̀̌͋͢ȉ̻̠̭͎̞̬̳͉̩͚̳̹ͩͥͫ̃͠͠s̶̝̤̟͈̖͎̻͎̰̻̖̲̖͎͓̠̤̉̍̿̒), it indicates eldritch voicing.

This quote also struck my attention too. Salmoneus, for some reason, *also* decided to 'refuse to study ... truth [etc]' because he, like Nortaneous, chose not to continue his study of philosophy after graduating with his bachelors degree. I have often wondered why he did not! Why not?
