And the argument about "straight people don't go around throwing their sexuality in people's faces so why should gay people do the same" is a load of crap.

Usually it is because they have problems with gay people being gay.

Sometimes, but usually the obnoxious ones are just obnoxious because they're obnoxious people. It's not any more endearing just because they're straight, though, and it's not like we don't have straight obnoxious guys here either (viz. Torco and Shm Jay).

(ETA for clarification: gay pride/etc. is not obnoxious, any more than any other kind of social activism is obnoxious.)
