Every time I see the "Jaguar" thread, I have this play in my head again. I'm listening to it for real now, in hopes of exorcising it from my skull.

Yelle, who everyone should know by now after Je Veux Te Voir, which we've already discussed.

And this Quebec Algerian singer, Zaho.

I also quite enjoy a German band that sings in Spanish called Marquess.

And Peter Fox. :P
Falgwian and Falgwia!!

I'm listening to the definition of English music now, so I just have to violate the thread. Rule Britannia!

I've got the same CD, it's great. Tracks number 1, 2 and 6 are among my favourites.

I listen to a LOT of non-English music (it's my preferred genre, and my playlists are created based on language family - Scandinavian, French, Finnish, Indonesian, Japanese, etc.)). So what the LAST song I listened to is difficult to say. Some faves:

Rakkauden anarkkia - Antti Tuisku (Yes, it's Finnish twink-pop. ew. :) )
Ajattelen sua, Lähikuvia - Kaksio
Sanon sinulle - Disco
Tout ce qu'on dit de toi - Robert
Jacques a dit - Christophe Willem
the whole album Alkoovi - Chisu
Je ne suis qu'à moi - Zofka
Mahi ve - from the Kal Ho Naa Ho soundtrack
Ella elle l'a - Kate Ryan

That's probably enough for now. Can't remember the indonesian songs of the top of my head, as it's Finnish I'm mostly obsessed with.

Ah, those are 1 and 3. I just love the power of his music, I don't even know how to describe it come to think of it.

[nitpick]Anarkia is with one K.[/nitpick] I liked that one song, Me istutettiin yhdessä puu, or some such. I was really surprised to know that it's sung by Antti Tuisku, I couldn't believe that song is sung by a guy!

D'oh! I still mess up on gradation sometimes. Well, rather more often than sometimes, but... :)

Tulevaisuus is another fave by him, but I like a lot of his stuff. What really gets me is that if he sang in English, I'd be disgusted by him. :)

As for surprises of gender - check out Christophe Willem. He won a French Idol or somesuch, and in his video for Jacques a dit, I swear he's a woman in man-drag:

Love the song, and his voice, just can't believe he's a man.

But that's the dictionary form of the word, a loan-word on top of it. :?

Heh, now I just have to look up the song I mentioned. Ahah!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjDJ5zVj ... re=related. OMG he's gone emo! :D But hmm, it doesn't sound the same as on the radio. :/

If there's somewhere in there where gradation may apply at any time, I will probably pick the wrong form. I know about closed syllables and all that, and still get it wrong most of the time. Bleah.

Mother Mallard's Portable Masterpiece Company: Like a Duck to Water
Contrary to what you might expect, it's actually cosmic 70s synth twinkles.

British too, but who's going to tell when it's all instrumental?
