:? For a moment I envisioned something akin to Hammerfall in a Slavic tongue, and then my ears were violated...

Do they have white noise playing in the background for a reason other than slaughtering good taste?

heh, I think the metal guitar sound takes a bit of getting used to... most people seem to either love it or think it sounds like noise

but then I listen to merzbow so what the fuck do I know about music

Ok, well to me merzbow isn't music, that stuff is just weird.

That static was an instrument?!? A guitar?!?

I normally don't like this kind of... scream metal, for lack of a better word [I have no stomach for the minutely nuanced distinctions between doom metal, death metal, speed metal, etcetera] but I must say

THIS IS WIN !

Garry Schyman - Praan, which is allegedly in Bengali? Can anyone confirm this?

(If it sounds familiar, it's the song from the YouTube link Guitarplayer posted in the "cheer me up?" thread in Ephemera)

It is in Bengali.
I did have a bizarrely similar (to the original poster's) accident about four years ago, in which I slipped over a cookie and somehow twisted my ankle so far that it broke

found a song today, loving it and remembered this thread, so here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDdGUuWxXGE

it's by the popular Taiwanese female group S.H.E. (the name is made up of the initials of the members of the group). it is in Taiwanese, is their first Taiwanese-language release and, apparently, is sort of a ground breaking move for the members of the group, who don't speak Taiwanese natively and were tutored through each line of the song (if i'm not mistaken).

the lyrics are sort of a wistful tribute to childhood, tradition and family in rural Taiwan. which is really cool because i love Taiwan (a sentiment admittedly based solely on the four days i was there, all of which were spent in urban Taipei, but still). here are the lyrics, in chinese characters and some sort of romanization, plus english and mandarin translations:

I won't confirm that transcription  , but yes - this is not Russian, the guy is just singing nonce syllables. I thought that video was yesterday's internet meme already?

Wow. I haven't listened to S.H.E lately, but S and H have changed so much I barely recognize them. E is still the same though.
