It's driftwood. Full-tree driftwood. This is typical of Pacific Northwest beaches in their natural condition. The trunks take centuries to rot away, so at any one time, there's at least half a millennium's worth of trees blown over by storms laying around on the beach.
Re: ZBB member photos, part 5. (Something for the weekend, s
thanks, Radius, I always noticed those in movies about canada and trees and fishing.
Re: ZBB member photos, part 5. (Something for the weekend, s
Yeah, logs are part of every single beach in the PNW. I suspect that some municipalities even add logs to public beaches where they don't naturally wash up, just because people are so used to them as beach furniture.
EDIT: but now that I think about it, I don't imagine we even have any beaches where logs don't wash up. I spent this past weekend with some friends out on one of the gulf islands and sure enough all the beaches had logs all over the place.

what's with your trees, dudes, here you very rarely see a tree on a beach.
do you add like potassium benzoate to them ?

Re: ZBB member photos, part 5. (Something for the weekend, s
those ones in phar's pic are probably just dead trees doing their dead tree thing
but on beaches on major rivers and at river deltas like the Fraser you get logs washing up that are lost from log booms / timber rafts and they are indeed treated lumber

Whoa, I just saw that on r/2X.
I did have a bizarrely similar (to the original poster's) accident about four years ago, in which I slipped over a cookie and somehow twisted my ankle so far that it broke

Five years here and I haven't put up a single picture of myself. Very well. Here is a picture of me in The World's Bitchingest Six-Euro Overcoat. I found it today at a thrift store in Helsinki for, as you'd expect, six euros. Kudos to Nae for telling me where to find the store. It is also a shot of my hair acting up, as it usually does. I'm told it looks good curly but I'm not sure...

…since when are you in Helsinki?
(and are any of you attending Dead Uralic Languages Memorial Day on Thursday?)

Risla. That picture. You... with hair like that and an expression like that, all you need is a blood-dripping knife and some stigmata and you could star in another terrible Blair Witch Project sequel.
