He's wrong about everything, of course. These Nazi types never seem to realize that you can't have a lasting government run by geniuses. I don't have the time for audiobooks. Is Jorjani worth paying any attention to? The only thing I've seen from him is a secondhand explanation of his Schmittian sales pitch for global Zoroastrian theocracy.

It depends. I liked his conception of cultural identity because it provides a clean, naive and uncritical contrast to, say, Husserl's (link). I also thought the derivation of spectral ideas in his dissertation (available online) has some relevance for writing horror and fantasy. On politics proper, I can't take him seriously because he seems to unironically believe in paranormal phenomena, but so did many high-ranking Nazis. His international Zoroastrian theocracy is in the same ballpark, but then, I think Yarvin's Patchwork is an equally fantastic, if less colorful, idea. Once the world has been subdivided into for-profit Singapores, what is there to prevent them from conquering each other without an international agency to preserve the status quo? For example, the Dutch East India Company is known to have raised entire armies in its conquest of Indonesia. Singapores that gain large territories through conquest are no longer Singapores, so we'll be back to square one in no time. If that's realistic, I'm not sure I understand what ideas you think are worth paying attention to. (Only the most obvious objection. What about monopolies formed through legitimate business practices, and so on?)

PS. I understand he is directly involved with Iranian nationalists, if that's what you're asking, although some of them have begun to distance themselves from him since he came out in support of Israel.

PPS. Let me know of more sensible alt right plans. Reading propaganda that disagrees with each other helps me with character motivations.

Currently rereading Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke. I have considered this my favorite book for a long time…and now I very clearly recall why. I fiercely love every single word in this book. Absolute masterpiece.

(it also, incidentally, features a conlanger as a character)

The BBC did a short TV series based on the book, which I quite enjoyed.

I'm aware of the series but have absolutely zero desire to watch it. I feel that much of what makes the book exceptional just wouldn't translate well to a visual format, and I don't want to screw up my mental images of everything.

Not having read the book, I can't comment on the adaptation. But as a TV series, it was very good. I gather that it made some simplifying changes to the book, but that the adaptation was well-thought-of as respectful and appropriate, and that it captured some key scenes from the book in a satisfying manner.

I need to re-read it. It was a difficult read and I didn't like it when I first read, but I think I just read it too young to understand it. I would probably enjoy it today.
