I found a bunch of philosophy dissertations from the place where I got Prometheus and Atlas by Googling "site:https://ir.stonybrook.edu/xmlui/bitstream/ philosophy" and "site:https://ir.stonybrook.edu/xmlui/bitstream/ philosophy pdf" (without quotes). These look interesting:

Here are the channels I know of that have some videos on geopolitics and geoeconomics that are not obviously inaccurate: https://www.youtube.com/user/CulturalKn ... =0&sort=dd https://www.youtube.com/user/Wendoverpr ... id&sort=dd https://www.youtube.com/user/CaspianReport/videos The first one is the best, and also the least visited, so let me know if there are good ones I don't know about. RealLifeLore might count, though it is more random and a bit on the sensationalist side: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP5tjE ... =dd&view=0

Miscellaneous NSFW comedy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0T2mpUb8yo ...from the channel that brought us the classic horror short: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUQhNGEu2KA If this means something, no clue what that might be. Binging on other horror shorts I remember: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxRIWBoluzs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WOYI7lVbXQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y7Uvgt7fsg Narration of an original story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVew4nFcpD0 On a lighter note: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz6ThqHqJes

PS. I Googled "site:https://ir.stonybrook.edu/xmlui/bitstream/ geopolitics" on a whim, and this one turned up:

PPS. On my novel list, I finished The Secret History, House of Leaves, Gone Girl and Watchers. Next up are The Daughter of Time, The Bone Collector, Pale Fire, Fingersmith and Cloud Atlas. Can't believe I haven't read Bird Box yet.

I found an interesting philosophy dissertation from Stony Brook: https://ir.stonybrook.edu/xmlui/handle/11401/72545 (This one is useful for writing how characters interact with the world: https://ir.stonybrook.edu/xmlui/handle/11401/71301)

For geopolitics, a simple search turned up these channels: https://www.youtube.com/user/FPRIVideo/ ... &flow=grid https://www.youtube.com/user/STRATFORvi ... w=0&sort=p These also seem useful, but I'm not familiar with them personally.

PS. I've been binge watching YouTube's favorite mad scientist recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bl3NamzoFrM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVVTSXA0HTU https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... Ec7JYqDVTZ https://www.youtube.com/user/theCodyRee ... w=0&sort=p (I'm afraid my knowledge of mad science hangouts is limited to: https://www.youtube.com/user/TheChemlif ... t=p&view=0 http://www.sciencemadness.org/talk/ (I haven't watched enough of channels like Applied Science to know if they're mad enough to qualify: https://www.youtube.com/user/bkraz333/v ... rid&sort=p (Anyway, in case anyone here is of the lunatic and scientific persuasions, this is a good textbook on organic chemistry: http://jsforum.chez-alice.fr/book/org-c ... fman-2.pdf)))

I've also rewatched the Lizzie Bennet Diaries: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... 80D8A65D08 and the vlogbrothers EXPLANATIONS: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... eVc7qOn8Dq

Post subject:  Re: What are you reading, watching and listening to?

It depends. I liked his conception of cultural identity because it provides a clean, naive and uncritical contrast to, say, Husserl's (). I also thought the derivation of spectral ideas in his dissertation () has some relevance for writing horror and fantasy. On politics proper, I can't take him seriously because he seems to unironically believe in paranormal phenomena, but so did many high-ranking Nazis. His international Zoroastrian theocracy is in the same ballpark, but then, I think Yarvin's Patchwork is an equally fantastic, if less colorful, idea. Once the world has been subdivided into for-profit Singapores, what is there to prevent them from conquering each other without an international agency to preserve the status quo? For example, the Dutch East India Company is known to have raised entire armies in its conquest of Indonesia. Singapores that gain large territories through conquest are no longer Singapores, so we'll be back to square one in no time. If that's realistic, I'm not sure I understand what ideas you think are worth paying attention to. (Only the most obvious objection. What about monopolies formed through legitimate business practices, and so on?)

PS. I understand he is directly involved with Iranian nationalists, if that's what you're asking, although some of them have begun to distance themselves from him since he came out in support of Israel.

PPS. Let me know of more sensible alt right plans. Reading propaganda that disagrees with each other helps me with character motivations.

1. Another Day from Rent is stuck in my head: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oidzfBu-cJY I don't understand why it's un-PC to like Rent. Do you really want your operatic characters to be moral exemplars, or terrible and flamboyant enough to move your jaded soul?

v oddly structured for what it is - "increasing elaboration of a single theme throughout a track" isn't something I run across in electronic music much. the closest thing I can think of is some of the longer and weirder vsnares tracks. then again, I don't listen to much electronic music

Currently rereading Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke. I have considered this my favorite book for a long time…and now I very clearly recall why. I fiercely love every single word in this book. Absolute masterpiece.

(it also, incidentally, features a conlanger as a character)

The BBC did a short TV series based on the book, which I quite enjoyed.

I'm aware of the series but have absolutely zero desire to watch it. I feel that much of what makes the book exceptional just wouldn't translate well to a visual format, and I don't want to screw up my mental images of everything.

Not having read the book, I can't comment on the adaptation. But as a TV series, it was very good. I gather that it made some simplifying changes to the book, but that the adaptation was well-thought-of as respectful and appropriate, and that it captured some key scenes from the book in a satisfying manner.

I need to re-read it. It was a difficult read and I didn't like it when I first read, but I think I just read it too young to understand it. I would probably enjoy it today.
