Yeah but, I was just suggesting that if you're gonna do a thread about what sites people need to know about, you better write short descriptions of those sites too, otherwise what's the point of the thread?finlay wrote:Next time I'll tell him to just fucking google it, gentle sarcasm doesn't seem to work too well. I wasn't actually intending on describing all of them.

Much of the ZBB is deficient in that regard. I blame it on the high quota of aspies.finlay wrote:gentle sarcasm doesn't seem to work too well

Not as internet-specific, but yeah.finlay wrote:What about news outlets? You've got the BBC, CNN

Yep, mainly included for historical purposes. Altho people still use them for band pages.Guitarplayer wrote:Myspace – is ... wait, isn't that SO early 2000's?
Sure is. Apparently YIM is also more common than MSN Messenger.Guitarplayer wrote:Yahoo – is this still alive?!
What's not alive, on the other hand, is Geocities, which I thought about including for history value but decided against. I can't think of any other bigger Net phenomenon that is not still around in some form. Well, Napster, maybe, but that's not a webpage. (And it's around in some form, but a form that doesn't count.)

What exactly is this dark side? I used to visit GameFAQs a lot and can't think of anything you could be referring to. The quality of conversation is much less than here of course, but that's nothing you shouldn't expect when the focus is video games.Bedelato wrote:I'm actually kinda proud to admit that TV Tropes has ruined my life.
-GameFAQS: A database of video game cheats and walkthroughs and schtuffz. The message boards here have a dark side, though, and once you've seen it, there's no going back
Oh, and though it's not a website everyone needs to know about, if you're interested in zoology you should read Tetrapod Zoology.

Have you looked at the social boards? Or poked around some of the older systems?Alces wrote:What exactly is this dark side? GameFAQs has extremely strict content policies on its boards. If it appears the least bit illegal, unethical, or not kid-friendly, it gets booted, possibly along with you. I'll spare you the details, but let's just say that it gets tense there sometimes.

Nothing wrong with being atheist, I'm atheist-ish myself (mostly, it's a long story). What IS wrong is being a pretentious misogynistic atheist pseudointellectual fucknugget.
