I've a high tolerance for the self-described drug based counter-culture in that there's a littany of disallowed medicines
out there that are safer, cheaper, and funner than tobacco or liquor, and I don't believe experimentation with these products necessarily leads to bad results. That said, I don't really have anything to 'prove', and once curiosity is said and done with I find it more than a little odd* to make a habit of much "harder" stuff than marajuana.
*(For example, it is a quick study people on coke are not very fun to be around, especially if you're also on coke. You basically need to be the only one on coke at the time and in company it's appropriate to act a royal dick around. And have a thick skin, since you are like to be embarrassed when it's over.)
It's not especially high on my list to try any specific drug, and there are a goodly number I never will out of fear of creating an additction (heroin at the forefront), excepting for black ayahuasca in tea form (ayahuasca truneo
). I'd like a bit of that mystery-drink.
I've done most of the mainstream stuff, and had medicore to bad experiences (coke, shrooms). Weed is a rare activity for me now, among friends, and I've not bought my own in a couple years (a joint isn't enough for me to feel the effects, and most weed these days is very weak stuff anyway - edit: yes salvia is an alternative, yes it's stronger, yes it's expensive
). I intensely dislike tobacco.
Alcohol is a safer, more respectable, time-honored vice, and I think I'll stick with it. I recently bought Kingsley Amis' Everyday Drinking
and a mighty fine flask, to try my hand at the old boys' club. I don't consider myself a heavy drinker, though, just perhaps a fashionable one. And that's just fine with me.
I'll make an exception for that ellusive drug of love
, ooh how intoxicating! Ooh how rare!
oh shit you just called black people in britain "african-americans"
