In India, there's a series of books called Learn [language name] In a Month. On the back of each issue, it says: By Language Many As Nation One.

This is probably just a condensed version of what another more well-known series in India, Learn [language name] in 30 Days (yes this is another series altogether), uses as its motto (also printed on the back cover): "By languages we are many, but as a nation, we are one."

A friend and I went to the barber shop last weekend. Today he texted me saying, "Its [sic] nice looking trendy and handsome" At first I thought he'd left out all punctuation and what he meant was my haircut was "nice-looking, trendy, and handsome." But now I wonder if he didn't mean exactly what he said, that looking trendy and handsome is nice.

That's exactly what I took it to mean when I read what he wrote.

Reptile Cult Feud Over Raw Meat Ends in Death

No garden path here. I just love the headline, and the fact that it's not from a source like Weekly World News.

There is a possibility of multiple hicks replacing one staff member of the White House??? Maybe Chump wasn't kidding about draining the swamp after all!!1 I'm not sure whether that's good or bad, though, despite the wording. I hope at least it doesn't mean someone named Hope had to go through some binge-drinking frat hazing ritual and then hiccup to get the job.

Clearly we're meant to hope that Bill Hicks is, after what I can only assuming is a long line of black holders of the office, the next director of house communications to be white.

That one got me good.
I generally forget to say, so if it's relevant and I don't mention it--I'm from Southern Michigan and speak Inland North American English. Yes, I have the Northern Cities Vowel Shift; no, I don't have the cot-caught merger; and it is called pop.

Reminds me of the old chestnut "remove lid and stand in boiling water for half an hour".
Zompist's Markov generator wrote:it was labelled" orange marmalade," but that is unutterably hideous.

Hitting "turns" and realizing "watch" can't be the verb, I then thought of watches. A watch party, which would be a party that emphasizes wearing watches, or the like?

That's exactly what it was. (This is the shooting in Plano that you may already have heard about, Vijay.) I don't recall coming across "watch party" before; IMD that's a "watching party".

Weird. I've only ever heard "watch party", never "watching party". (Mostly weird because we're from the same city)

But different generations, IIRC.
