You slept over the towel right? So the bed didn't soak.

I drink like half a liter every night no matter the heat, btw.

It gets pretty hot in Dallas, but nothing like the Southwest US. I will definitely enjoy not having subzero days in Dallas when I move there this October.

My vent: Got to get out of this place before my building forces all the residents to pay for a $5K per window replacement on all windows in the building. (There were two outer window panes in the building that have fallen to the ground since this spring, and apparently the windows are actually older than the building itself, so the mean failure rate has probably been passed a while ago).

Plus with all the potential issues for the water piping "stacks" and HVAC unit replacements, that could run the building a million dollars or more, which my roommate and I cannot afford.

It was a bit nippy watching the fireworks up on the roof last night, but I would take that over one of our super sweltering summers any time. I'm kind of wishing for one awful week to shut up all those people complaining about how we "haven't had a summer" and get them to appreciate how nice this really is.

That would be a good idea, because these temperatures are great. I hate super hot days and super hot nights even more. Right now it's just hot enough that I could go take a swim in Lake Michigan if I wanted, by evening slip on a nice comfy hoody, and by nightfall go to bed comfortable, not sweating (if we don't run the AC). This is how I like my summers.

Living in Australia, we had two identical heatwaves, both times a Saturday and a Sunday that reached 42 degrees and it was humid. I was living in a flimsy wooden house with no air conditioning and pretty much every object you touched was uncomfortably or even painfully warm. On the Sunday of one of these heatwaves, I found a cool patch under a big cushion where the heat hadn't gotten in yet and I had the most amazing five seconds until my arm warmed it up. Then I went back to lolling and languishing.

This paperwork associated with running away is frustrating, largely because I have no idea what exactly's happening on the other end and I'm on a tight deadline of trying to get the application for the AST sent to the Luxembourg Embassy before the 20th of this month. Which requires paperwork from the University of Luxembourg end, and I've no idea if they're on vacation for the summer. At least my advisor/boss over there is working on pushing them to get the documents done, but there's only so much he can do.

Seriously, going to France was a cakewalk compared to this.

I think I got stood up on what would've been my first ever date earlier today. I'm bummed.

Minor vent:

So, ever since he got back from Germany, my brother's been crashing at my place because the place he's supposed to be renting isn't available yet despite it supposed to have been available starting from the start of this month. He hasn't been particularly active in trying to push them to get into his place.

Seriously, it feels like I let my niceness get the best of me sometimes. He's been driving me crazy all the while... getting into and using up things I've bought without asking, staying up all hours of the night doing whatever (and consequently sleeping in until early afternoon, well after I need to leave for work), yammering on and on about his various obsessions (well, I do too at times, but this is really getting old), and leaving my place a mess not unlike how he left his other place a horrible mess that I had to clean up.

Isn't it time to drop "that excludes sirdanilot" from the thread title now that sirdanilot is permabanned?

If anything, that made the name more accurate than ever.

Except that would put it over the character limit, so I like to think that that's implied.

Me: What did you season this with?
Husband: Ras al-hanout.
Me: That has pepper in it.
Husband: But not red pepper.
Me: ...

(For those not familiar with it, it typically contains both chili pepper and hot paprika.) The heartburn started in about an hour later, then the stomachache. I was eventually able to fall sleep after ingesting a handful of Tums, but was waking up every two hours after that.

I really don't want to have to resort to preparing my own food, but if he keeps making such basic mistakes about what I can and can't eat, I may have to. *sigh*

I know the pain brother... I too can't process spicy.

thankfully, most people where i live know if they've added chili pepper to things or not: it seems to be cultural, someplaces chili is so ubiquitous that people don't realize when they've added it.

A friend of mine took me to an Indian place recently where they even put jalapeno seeds in the raita. I was like, "But that's the stuff you drink to cool the burn from the spices in the food!" It was a terrific meal, but I just can't eat that way on a regular basis.

And for some reason, the tagine we had last night caused me even more trouble. It's like I know in general which foods are worse for my reflux than others, but I can never totally predict what's going to cause me serious problems and what's not.
