Guter Rat, Astraios.
Good advice, Astraios. I came to the same conclusion. And also, we talked and cuddled and I feel better about the whole situation now.

It's not just women who study at universities. (I can't bring myself to say "college girls".) Lots of people do that. To me, it's a personality deficiency.

I was going to say, that sounds like my gay friends. When someone's just fallen in love, we say, "Okay, see you again in six months."

Perhaps, but hormones can be very strong. It's anyway quite normal when one love someone, that one wants to spend time with him/her.

Ich meine, auf Englisch.
I mean in English.

I also hate it when I'm watching American movies or TV shows and women are just referred to "co-eds".

I find it interesting how words like "friend" and "acquaintance" divide up the semantic space in various cultures, even within the English speaking world..

In my experience, my straight male friends do that more often. But I have, admittedly, only a few gay friends.

Na klar. Man muss doch auch seine Freundschaften aufrechterhalten.
Of course. But you also have to maintain your friendships.

Why not? I mean, to teach children isn't as easy as teaching adults, but they [the children] are often much more open to the information than grown-ups.

spendieren is a false friend, it means "to buy / get something for someong else" (like a drink or a meal in a pub)

I understand that someone who is feshly in love forgets about everything else. Als linguoboy said, that's a phase that's over soon; friends should be patient.

Thanks. It shows that the only German instructions I've had were almost 30 years ago :).

Thanks again, I'll try to remember that (verbringen seems close enough to Dutch doorbrengen, so that shouldn't be too hard :))

I don't have straight friends. You can't have sex with them (for the most part).

No, only when they can fuck me. But jokes aside, of course not, I do also have friends who I haven't done anything with (yet...). But I don't have straight friends in real life, only on the Internet, or acquaintances in my classes.

Majdnem minden barátom heteró, de lányok vagyuk is, azért itt nem baj.
Almost all of my friends are straight, but they're girls too, so it doesn't matter.

Except my coworkers, I think most of my friends are gay (or LGBT). Um, there's maybe 4 people I hang out with. One is my older lesbian friend, one's my canadian friend, one's my boyfriend, and there's one more just now who's straight but only in Japan for three months. Apart from that, one of my coworkers is bi and so is one of my housemates. And at the pride parade I will have many friends. That's on the 27th, and I'm really looking forward to it now.

I used to belong to a club at university in the UK where everyone was assumed to be bi until proven otherwise.

That's never yet been a problem for me.

In Australia, I never had good friends who were gay. We never had anything in common other than being gay. There's really just my ex and a friend from high school who I don't talk to so much these days. There's also a gay guy in one of my circles of friends in Australia but I can't stand him a lot of the time because he doesn't seem to accept me because my life is not the same as his (i.e. a proper gay life).

Hier in Berlin habe ich schwule Freunde.

Tens amigas?
Do you have girl friends? You don't fuck them either :P Until last year I didn't have any gay friends... virtually all of my male friends are hetero.

At least a little. I can testify from my own experience[*] that it's a completely different experience[*] if you know some Chinese.[/i]
