Help your fluency in a nifty way
Re: Help your fluency in a nifty way
Today I'll be able to drive home easily, without traffic jams. Every Dutchmen (except for me) will be watching WC football (Netherlands against Australia). It'll be quite quiet.

außer is a preposition and always takes the dative case (except, of course, when it's used as a conjunction).jal wrote:Heute kann ich einfach nach Hause fahren, ohne Stau. Jeder Niederländer (außer mir) wird WM-Fußballanschauen (Niederlande gegen Australien). Es wird ganz ruhig sein.

Good luck!
Re: Help your fluency in a nifty way
Yeah, I even googled that, but got confused by an example where it was some kind of reducted conjunction or whatever... It's about time german sheds its cases :)))hwhatting wrote:außer is a preposition and always takes the dative case (except, of course, when it's used as a conjunction).

I came home to my mum's. There's nothing interesting here, but there's free food and TV.

Anna yō de motta, watashi ga "shashin wo toranakereba ii da" to kangaehajimeta. Densha wa watashi no eki ni tsuite watashi wa tatsu toki kamera no oto wo kiita!
I had a gross experience the other day. A hipster was sitting in front of me in the commuter train. He was wearing a hat, I think he had dreads, he also had a moustache and he had on an old-fashioned tweed suit and old-fashioned shoes. After a while I noticed that he was staring at me. He stared for really long! He must've seen that I noticed. He was holding a pink iPhone. He was holding it in such a way that it got me thinking "I hope he's not taking pictures". When the train arrived at my station and I got up, I heard the sound of a camera!
1I thought I had made up a new word, but nope.
2How do you say "after a while"?
3How do you say "he was holding it in such a way that it got me thinking "I hope he's not taking pictures"?

All of my experiences with public transportation are gross. The busses at my university are always filled up and so I have to stand up, squished by a bunch of strangers. Luckily my classes are usually close together so I can walk from one to another pretty easily.

In dieselbe Bar! Passe.
Dün akşam iki bu hafta onlarla (?) çıktığım tip bana bir bara davet ettiler ... aynı bara. ???
Last night, two guys I went on dates with in the last week invited me to a bar. To the same bar. Pass.

Ah non, il te trouvait beau. Quelle horreur .
Oh no! He thought you were handsome. How terrible Okay, taking pictures is a little creepy

You don't say like that in japanese. Repeat the verb.
Eg "I enjoyed myself!"
(Every day i have to teach my students to do the opposite.)

Ah, sō ka.
Oh, is that so?
Demo, "tanoshikatta" wa "it was fun" no imi ga nai?
But doesn't "tanoshikatta" mean "it was fun"?

No one can help you. You'll have to deal with the squished spiders in your life alone for now.

Jars. Why don't you use jars and throw it out the window?
And take a photo before so have a record of the local biodiversity.

I went to Okutama! Camping was fun. But i got up at 4:30 (and met my friend in the evening) so currently (next day's 2:00 ish) i am tired.

Taberu koto ni tsuite betsuni "tanoshii" to iwanai. (Ano Toffifii no hyōgo wa chigai!)
You don't exactly say "fun" about eating. (That Toffifee slogan is wrong!)
