(Ich verstehe nur ein bisschen Spanisch, und nur, weil ich in Amerika wohne.) Dabei habe ich einige deutsche Idiomen erkennt. What to do in Finland? Hiking is always good. The sauna is also nice: to get the whole experience, you have to jump out of it into the snow or a lake.

On a fait ça dans une région dans le Michigan qui s’appelle le “Upper Penninsula”. Cette région était bien influencée par des Finlandais qui y ont émigré pendant la fin du XIXème siècle. D’abord on a dû enflammer le poêle à bois et après environ une demi-heure quand le bois s’est embrasé, le poêle à bois a fait chauffer des pierres au-dessus sur lesquelles on a versé des louches d’eau pour créer de la vapeur. Et ce n’est qu’après tout ça que l’on pouvait s’amuser dans le sauna haha ! Mais une fois trop chaud, on a fait une baignade tout nu dans le fleuve juste dehors. C’était bien amusant !
En ce qui me concerne, j’habite maintenant en Belgique, un pays vachement bizarre. J’habite en Wallonie dans la ville de Liège, pendant un an, pour étudier et donner des cours à l’Université de Liège. Mais quand j’ai écrit que la Belgique est un pays bizarre, je veux dire la division entre langues ici. Ce pays est tellement divisé que parfois, et vraiment normalement, un Wallon ne peut pas parler avec un Flamand et vice versa, sauf en anglais s’ils le parlent (en Flandres pour la plupart oui, mais en Wallonie ça dépend). Du coup la Belgique me semble plutôt deux pays avec une seule équipe de foot ! Mais quand même j’aime ce petit pays, c’est juste bizarre quoi !
We did that in a region of Michigan called the "Upper Peninsula." This region was quite influenced by the Finnish who emigrated there during the end of the 19th century. First you had to light the woodstove and after a half hour or so when the wood caught fire, the woodstove would heat up rocks on top on which you'd pour ladles of water to create steam. And only then could one enjoy the sauna haha! But once we were too hot, we would take a little dip completely nude into the river just outside. It was great fun!
As for me, I live in Belgium now, a really weird country. I live in Wallonia in the city of Liege, for a year, to study and teach at the University of Liege. But when I wrote that Belgium is a weird country what I mean is the division between languages here. This country is so divided that sometimes, and truly normally, a Walloon can't speak with a Flemish person and vice versa, unless in English if they speak it (in Flanders they do for the most part, but in Wallonia it depends). So Belgium seems rather like two countries with a single football team! But I do this country, it's just so strange!

Though there's a similar word "zeewater" for sea water, "meerwater" sounds decidedly odd, and isn't present in the dictionary. I'd paraphrase, e.g. "het water in de meren". Also, although "het water in de meren in Finland" isn't wrong per se, I'd say "in Finland het water in de meren". "het hele jaar" sounds like you're talking about a specific calendar year, or 365-day period. That's why I'd add "door".

I've finally arrived in Israel (Rehovot). The apartment is very new, but it was gross when we got here yesterday. Rehovot is a nice city, and we live next to the Weizmann Institute, which is really cool. But it's far from Herzl St., which is where all the restaurants and bars and supermarket are located. Our AC broke so it's hot inside like it is outside (33 °C).

אסטראיוס גרה בעיר שהיא 30 קילומטר מפה, ומנקודת מבט ישראלי זה רחוק. 40 דקות במכונית ושעה וחצי באוטובוס/רכבת. אבל לא נורא. אני בטוח שניפגש הרבה.
Astraios lives in a city 30 km away, and from an Israeli perspective that's far. 40 minutes by car and an hour and half by bus/train. But it's not a big deal. I'm sure we'll see each other a lot.

J'ai l'impression que le Luxembourg est pire que la Belgique en ce qui concerne l'administration. En Belgique il fallait simplement obtenir un visa, et après chez la cité administrative j'obtiendrai ma carte de résidence (qui ressemble peut-être à l'autorisation de séjour temporaire dont tu as besoin). Il y a aussi la police qui va nous rendre visite. Mais la cité administrative m'a dit que c'est tout à fait normal. Mais je suis sûr qu'en ce qui concerne l'administration, le Luxembourg est plus méthodique que la Belgique, ou au moins que la Wallonie. J'étais une semaine en retard pour ma domiciliation (normalement on a 8 jours pour trouver un logement et faire la demande de domiciliation) mais la cité administrative, ouais, elle n'en avait rien à foutre !
It sounds like Luxembourg is worse than Belgium regarding administration. In Belgium I just had to get a visa, and after that at the cité administrative I'll get my residence card (which is similar perhaps to the provisional resident permit that you need). There is also a visit by the police. But the cité administrative told me that's quite normal. But I'm sure that concerning administration, Luxembourg is more methodological than Belgium, or at least than Wallonia. I was a wood late for my domiciliation (normally you have 8 days to find housing and make a demand for domiciliation) but the cité administrative, yeah, they couldn't give a damn!

There used to be a ZBBer who lived in my town a few years ago (Gremlins, if you remember him) but we never met. He was only fifteen, and it would have been a touch inappropriate.

Aujourd'hui j'ai dormi pendant mon cours primier. Je m'ai senti assez mauvaise pourquoi je n'avais pas fait ça depuis longtemps, mais je pense qu'il n'y aura pas des grosses problèmes par suite de lui. Alors, c'est bien.
