Can you do into the NLK transcription of Bengali?
And just how different grammatically is it from Pali?
I might might might be willing to translate out of it.

I feel like this is a horrible, and fun, idea. Would you mind writting a sentence or two and I'll give a shot at translating it into English right now to give a check?

It's a terrible idea.

Right now I'm thinking of posting the listing on Wednesday, and then starting the relay on Friday, assuming everything goes well.

That is a wicked terrible idea and I don't know entirely why I even suggested that in the first place. I was hoping it might be close enough to be something like offering to translate out of any Romance language, which even if that were the case would still be a stupid idea in this situation since I'm only familiar with one of that group of languages.

As for the translation, I came up with 'I won't write in Bengali'.

Pali's got a quite different grammar from Bengali. Bengali has developed all kinds of things a Pali speaker wouldn't recognize.

And as for the translation, it means "I can't write in Bengali". You're close.

So if you want Maltese, I'd try to get Simmalti to translate into Maltese and then send it to me just before he leaves, so I get it after I come back and can translate out of it. Just saying.
Or I could flip it around so that no one has to rush to finish it before they leave, and Simmalti gets it as he returns.

And the teams. Hopefully nothing weird happened. ...like the board deciding it wants to eat one of the teams... Dates are assuming this starts on schedule on the 29th.

Team Charm (as "Up" and "Top" don't sound as interesting)

Jetboy: English -> Latin (1st)
Aeetlrcreejl: Latin -> German (4th)
finlay: German -> English (7th)
Timmytiptoe: English -> Dutch (10th)
tsulaokiw: Dutch -> French (13th)
Nettuno: French -> Hebrew (16th)
Astraios: Hebrew -> Maltese (19th)
Simmalti: Maltese -> French (22nd)
Ulrike Meinhof: French -> Swedish (25th)
Theta: Swedish -> English (28th)

Team Strange (as "Down" and "Bottom" don't sound as interesting)

Lyhoko Leaci: English -> German (1st)
MisterBernie: German -> French (4th)
treskro: French -> Mandarin (7th)
Emma: Mandarin -> Italian (10th)
tatapyranga: Italian -> Russian (13th)
Risla: Russian -> English (16th)
Ossicone: English -> Swedish (19th)
Qwynegold: Swedish -> Japanese (22nd)
faiuwle: Japanese -> Spanish (25th)
Mr. Z: Spanish -> English (28th)
Zain pazitovcor, sio? Sio, tovcor.

Ooh, I'm up first. Working with an uncorrupted text. Corrupting it. This should be fun.

I could change just that part... but then it just has another person doing English who would prefer to do something else, and who actually stated that in their initial post... Any other changes would require way to much work and would basically redo both teams entirely.

That's the problem with these... It's really hard (or sometimes impossible) to please everyone. Especially when one tries to get as many interesting language in as possible.

Ooh, for a short text, this is tricky. Still, I can probably finish it tonight. Probably.

I must say I'm slightly bemused that you put the link between me and Ossicone as English when we both put down Spanish as a potential language. :P
