At the risk of bringing this back from the dead, two possibly-relevant things:

1) About the men vs. women doing voiceovers (that I mentioned, re: Melissa Disney being a rare example of a female doing a movie trailer voiceover, and for an action movie that that).... BCC just did an article / film thingy on that exact thing.

2) Also, I went to go see The Lorax this weekend. While it did have some big name stars in it, as far as voice acting (Danny DeVito, Taylor Swift, Zac Efron, Betty White), I was mostly pleasantly surprised. None of them jumped out at me as being "bad" voices, except, ironically, for Betty White. Not that she doesn't have a great grandmother-voice, but her voice is just SO cemented in my head as "That's Betty White" that it jarred me out of my "suspension of disbelief" every time I heard her character talk. Maybe if I were a huge DeVito or Efron fan, I'd've had the same effect with them. In any case, having such a well-known person do the voice was, in this case, very much a disadvantage.
