I guess it could, if it was a verb. For some reason, though, I want to say "erect a booth around" or "put a booth over". Weird.

/buðz/ would be the plural, wouldn't it? Or am I generalising too much too?

Would that be enboothe /ɛnbuð/, not just boothe?

I have /buθs/, but I'm not totally sure that /buðz/ is wrong, either.

The C[-voice] > C[+voice] + <e> construction tends to take a noun meaning "X" and create a verb meaning "to apply X to", either literally or figuratively. Since booths are already enclosing objects, "enboothe" might be overkill. But I can also see "to boothe" meaning "to deck out in booths, as at a convention hall", in which case a particular display in that hall might be "enboothed" as part of the process.

Regarding plurals, I think it's ambiguous - both voiced and unvoiced are probably acceptable (and in fact, the dictionary has both).

How do you pronounce Bangor? The pronounciation for the Township of Bangor here in Michigan and the City of Bangor in Maine are very different. Ours here in Michigan is [g@`] or perhaps [g3`] and in Maine it's [gO`].

And in Welsh, ['baŋgɔɾ], which is what I tend to default to when I'm not singing "King of the Road".

/ˈbæŋə/ for the one in Wales. I wasn't aware there were any others.

Bangor (I'd never seen this city's name before, so I just said it how I would say an English word spelled this way) ['bɛɪŋʷɔʁˤ]
booths: [bʉhs̪], carefully [bʉθs]

Is "how would you pronounce this word you've seen only in print" at all useful for learning about dialects?

I think I heard <Bangor> once ages ago, but I can't remember whether it sounded like <banger> or <ban gore>.

Bangor: /ˈbeŋɡɔr/ > [ˈb̥ẽːŋɡɔ(ː)ʁˤ] (This placename is not native to my dialect, and hence this is largely a spelling pronunciation.)
booth: /ˈbuθ/ > [ˈb̥uθ]
booths: /ˈbuðz/ > [ˈb̥uːθs]

It seems that the pattern of leniting fortis final fricatives preceded by vowels in singular noun forms in both verb stems and plural noun forms derived from them seems to be at least somewhat sporadically productive in nouns where it would not or could not have applied historically...

I have been thinking about how people pronounce the name of the character Hannelore, specifically in Questionable Content. The reason is that I myself am familiar with the name as a German-language name, not an English-language one, yet Questionable Content is an English-language webcomic and the character in question in it is not German (as far as we know).

I am used to the Standard German /ˈhanəˌloːrə/ > [ˈhanəˌloːʁə], and am not really used to any canonical English pronunciation.

Hence I tend to mentally use the English pronunciation /ˈhanəˌlɔrə/ > [ˈhãːnəːˌʟ̞ɔːʁˤə(ː)]~[ˈhãːnəːˌɰɔːʁˤə(ː)]~[ˈhã̂ːɐ̯̃ˌʟ̞ɔːʁˤə(ː)]~[ˈhã̂ːɐ̯̃ˌɰɔːʁˤə(ː)] or sometimes the more overtly anglicized /ˈhɛnəˌlɔrə/ > [ˈhɛ̃ːnəːˌʟ̞ɔːʁˤə(ː)]~[ˈhɛ̃ːnəːˌɰɔːʁˤə(ː)]~[ˈhɛ̃̂ːə̯̃ˌʟ̞ɔːʁˤə(ː)]~[ˈhɛ̃̂ːə̯̃ˌɰɔːʁˤə(ː)].

I have heard of pronunciations with apocope being used in English, yet they just do not seem right to me, being familiar with the Standard German pronunciation thereof.

So what do you guys think here?

bath: /bæθ/ [bæθ]
bathe: /beið/ [beɨð]
scythe (n.): /səiθ/ [səɨθ]
scythe (v.): /saið/ [sɐɨð], or sometimes like the noun but with /ð/ (Not too sure about the vowel here... might be /əi/, this one's not in my usual lexicon...
teeth: /tiθ/ [tʰiθ]
teethe: /tið/ [tʰiːð]
shelf: /ʃɛlf/ [ʃɛlˤf]
shelve: /ʃɛlv/ [ʃɛlˤv]
olive oil: /ɑlɪv ojl̩/ [ˈɔlˤʷɪ̈v ˌoɪjl̩ˤʷ]

That's actually more surprising to me, I've never heard wool with a long /u/.
And any wonderings about why I pronounce things the way I do, I live in the South. Our accent is craaazy :P

That's some pretty unintuitive dissimilation.
