*More idiomatic: "over welke hond heb je het?"
hwhatting wrote:Ah, op die manier*!
*Colloquial. More formal would be something like "Ah, ik begrijp het" or "Ah, nu begrijp ik het" or the like.

Next month I'll go to Austria for a week of holiday. I hope that I get a chance to practive my german a bit, although I think that I'll largely speak English and Dutch.

The owners of the appartment are Dutch, and when I wrote to the skiing school in English, I got an answer in perfect Dutch. So I'm not too sure whether that's true :).

Thanks hw! It now looks like I can write decent German, since I'm making less errors than I would when I'd write as bad as I can speak German :).

Hast du "when" statt "if" geschrieben unter dem Einfluss der deutschsprachigen Version? Dieser letzte Satz ist ziemlich verwirrend.
Did you write "when" instead of "if" under German influence? That last sentence of yours is kind of confusing.

Ja.

Yea. I teach French in a high school. I have my Masters in French linguistics. I do my best but I don't know everything. I've attained a rating of advanced high in French according to ACTFL (something like C2 in Europe).

I think so. There's no Dutch influence here either, at any rate.

*Or "op een middelbare school". "onderwijs" is not a counting noun, so can't get "een".
**Needs some rephrasing to get it idiomatic. Perhaps "Ik heb de ACTFL-classificatie 'hoog gevorderd' behaald" or the like, though I'm not quite sure whether "hoog gevorderd" would be idiomatic.
***or perhaps "volgens het ACTFL".
^"iets zoals" is not quite idiomatic here.

Hehe, my accent is more Belgian so I'm almost a Belgian. Earlier I wasn't clear so I should clarify that only my oral skills were tested and not my writing skills. I speak French with a C2 rating. I should have my writing skills tested.

1"Voorheen" refers to a longer period (more like a "used to") in a more distant past. "hiervoor" is also possible.
2This sounds like very French-influenced Flemmish to me, but whether it is correct Flemmish I don't know :). At any rate, in ND you'd say something like "verduidelijkt", though less formal and following the English, I'd say "daarom wil ik verduidelijken dat" or just "daarom wil ik toevoegen dat" (I'd also use "wil" instead of "moet", as "moet" has more of a "have to" feeling rather than a "must" or "should").
3Or, perhaps more idiomatic, "testen" instead of "onderzoeken". Abilities "worden getest", people "worden onderzocht".

I hope my English is also C2, but I'm afraid it's only C1. My German isn't higher than A2, but I hope that some day I'll be able to get it to B1.

I'm only like B1 in japanese... I got N3 in the JLPT a few years ago. Recently I haven't spoken much... and in 2017 up to now i've had various sicknesses and injuries. That's my excuse anyway~

I had flu last week, first time in 8 years. i'm pretty much better now, but my throat still hurts a bit. just awful~ anyway this winter has been terrible. snowed too much this week.

I kind of feel like adding "-ass" to adjectives is only natural in attributive position ... I'd like to imagine it grammaticalising to an attributive adjective suffix.
