You're not doing anything. "Da" is not the only syllable I heard.

In phonetics, we had a highly-technical term for children who pick up on the importance of prosody before they discover phonemic contrasts. We called them "mushmouth kids". I was a mushmouth kid. At that age, I would reportedly tell my mother long and animated stories without a recognisable fragment of a word anywhere in them.

My niece did this, and my mom says my brother and I did too. My niece would come up and start talking up a storm ... not a single word recognizable, but her prosody was perfectly English, and it matched her facial expressions and hand gestures. It's kinda freaky. Especially once it combined with her babble words sounding like that could maybe be English words.

I remember seeing something about babbled Lojban somewhere...
