i was recently hired to teach someone English and its my first time tackling the subject. So I was wondering if any of you all have any tips as to how I can improve his learning experience and my teaching experience. Many thanks :)

Ask what they want from these lessons. Knowing what they're hoping for helps a lot.

You've probably already done this though.

Constantly teach them English idiomatic phrases. Tie them into the lessons but make them an addition. Any student will love learning cultural tidbits of a language. My French teacher would consistently teach us French idiomatic phrases and we all loved it! Plus it improved our French and made us sound more sophisticated.
