Oh, also: "waft".

David Attenborough said [wɑːft].

American can sound ugly, but I need for those r's to mean something, or else my belief system crumbles. I NEED TO FIND THAT MEANING.
They mean something, they jump onto the next available vowel! Even bette rif you have an intrusive-r!

[pʰoɹ pʰoɹ pʰoɹ pʰɔɑ]

maybe [pʰɔə]

I haven't really done an acoustic analysis of the vowel in "paw", so this is rough, but don't assume that it's nearly as strong as you would find in any of the Queens or Island dialects (which seems closer to [oə]; it is, at least, a bigger difference between start and end vowels).

For the first time in months I'm questioning my interpretation of my north-force-thought vowel. I've assumed [ɔː], but it could be [ɔo̯]. In my lower register there is definite dipthongisation, perhaps [ɔʊ̯].

So...
[pʰɔː pʰɔo̯ pʰɔʊ̯]... ish.

Probably close to /poʊɹ poʊɹ poʊɹ pɑ/, though I'm told that here in California /ɑ/ is drifting toward /ɔ/, and I'm kind of starting to be able to hear that.

The word "something" has a whole bunch of different pronunciations that vary in how much they reduce the word and such. What are the ways that you all say it, and what's your most common pronunciation in conversation?

[ˈsɐm.θɪ̈ŋ ˈsɐm.θɪ̈n ˈsɐm.fɪ̈ŋ ˈsɐm.fɪ̈n ˈsɐ.mɪ.lɐɪ̯ʔ.ð̠̚æʔ]

The last one is "something like that" in its most relaxed from (so relaxed that I'm not sure how to transcribe it in some places). Which can undergo more variation.

I'm pretty sure I use [sʌm.θɪŋ] most of the time, at least at the beginning and end of utterances, though sometimes it turns into something like [sʌmp̚.θɪŋ].

In some contexts, though, like in the non-initial pair "something else," it turns into (roughly) [sʌm.n̩] or [sʌmp̚.n̩].

This is somewhat tangential to the main topic of the thread, but do any other L1 English speakers find themselves pronouncing /r/ as something like /r̥/ or /hr̥/ at the beginning of words? I'm pretty awful at pronouncing most sounds not found in my particular variety of English, but somehow it seems to be easier for me to roll an r if I aspirate the heck out of it.

I think I go between the following depending on how deliberate or formal I'm being:
[ˈsəmpθɪ̃ŋ]
[ˈsə̃mpθɪ̃n]
[ˈsə̃mpɪ̃n]
[ˈsə̃mpn̩]
[ˈsə̃mʔɪ̃]
[ˈsə̃mʔn̩]
[ˈsə̃ʔɪ̃n]
[ˈsə̃ʔɪ̃]
[ˈsə̃ʔn̩]
