The linguistics stackexchange is now in open beta

Post by kaleissin »

The stackexhange (FAQ-generator) for linguistics is now accessible by all, at linguistics.stackexchange.com.

What is it? Well, you ask questions, each of which may wind up with several answers, and both questions and answers are scored. The person who asked a question may also choose one of the answers as the best one.

That it is in open beta means that the place is still fresh, and if there haven't been enough traffic both in visitors, questions and answers in a few months, it might be closed down. Early adopters set the tone for the entire thing with their questions and behaviors on the site and get to decide some of the early, important fiddly bits like some web design details, what types of questions are welcome, the difficulty-level of the questions and much else.(This is the first stackexchange I've been with almost since the beginning so I don't have a full overview of this process yet myself.)

When the site was proposed one of the subjects that was defined as unwanted was conlangs, so keep that in mind. Also keep in mind that it is this open beta process that actually decides what goes and doesn't go.

Personally I' like to see the same questions both here and on linguistics.stackexchange for a while to see what sort of people (and therefore what sort of answers) we get over there.

Here's the link again, now also with http: http://linguistics.stackexchange.com/
