Linguistic resources that do exist

Post by Skomakar'n »

I thought we could list good resources for learning natlangs here. I will keep updating the main post with your additions. I would prefer a title and a small description that can fit in less than one line, with an indication as to what type of resource it is, and what language[s] it deals with. I will begin by adding some entries of my own.

Add pages with conjugational tables, add dictionaries, add things to read, listen to or watch, add articles about grammar, and so on. Anything helpful. Let us make this a good collection of resources.
  • Indo-European
    • Germanic
      • Northern Germanic
        • Icelandic
          • Arnastofnun – Full conjugational tables for almost any word, but no translations.
        • Norwegian
          • Nynorskordboka – Despite the name, a dictionary for both Nynorsk and Bokmål. Norwegian only, but a very large database.

Cikoski's notes of Classical Chinese vocabulary, sort of a CC-English dictionary, including a pretty good discussion of modern and previous sinological work. (Sino-Tibetan, Sinitic, Classical Chinese)

Should all resources be online, or can we also mention books?

Take the Resources thread and catalog that. There's already a list like the one you've begun on KneeQuickie.

Books are fine. Links are not compulsory, but would be nice.

Which one? I searched before I started this thread, of course, and I couldn't seem to find one.
Except for the one about resources people wish for, of course.

I both looked in that section on my own, and performed a search for titles containing the word resources. How could I miss it?! Gee. I suck.

I'll keep the thread going in the meantime, and the administration will get to decide what to do with it.

Not sure about looking in the section on your own, but you can't search for posts from before the domain switch that happened (last year? earlier this year? I can't remember exactly). Well, rather, nothing turns up from older posts when you search for things now.

You can add this one as an Icelandic dictionary: http://digicoll.library.wisc.edu/cgi-bi ... line.IEOrd. It's pretty good.
