As for Chinese, I've got a friend who speaks Mandarin fluently. According to him I'm actually pretty good at pronouncing it, although nobody who starts learning it over the age of 2 can talk in it without an accent. I think it's just fun to wrangle your way around tones. As for Cantonese, I'm unfamiliar but from what I heard I think I prefer Mandarin. That's not to say Cantonese is bad-sounding at all, of course. Mandarin just has a better flow.
Lots of people have achieved near-native accents in Chinese after the age of 2, just look at people like Dashan (a Canadian guy) who only started learning it when he was in his early twenties I believe and can more or less pass as a native. Also Chinese people whose first language isn't Mandarin. I've also been mistaken for a native over the phone, and I didn't begin learning till I was about 14.

I specified Mexican Spanish because it's the only variant of Spanish that I've heard (being that I live in the southern US). I don't know if Castillian Spanish sounds remotely similar. But in any case, Spanish (that is, Mexican Spanish), sounds like rapid-fire chihuahuas hyped up on too much espresso.

Turns out all the people my age like to speak Spanish like some morbidly drunk Andalusian with a bad case of pulmonary disease. Yeah... basically Jersey Shore con todo el machismo Iberico.... por que camino anda al pais?
Thank god I lived in a predominantly Catalan area, cuz I can;t stand the oral horror. In catalan, the worst you can do is sound like a crazy farmer...

Obviously. Because that's not Castilian, nor any other Spanish dialect. XD

Well, thanks for introducing me to their beautifully unique music for one thing. For another, so far they don't sound all that harsh; more like a sleepy guy singing a French-Arabic combination. "Mehm benyeggit meshmshmmehh, ooooh yesdesretsand, suburu best sann, yehmmehmyem..."

Gee, we sure are talking a lot about Catalonia and such nowadays, aren't we?

Je sais que cela n'était pas espagnol, mais je crois qu'il y ressemblait assez pour le comprendre, peut-être aussi par l'aide des autres langues romanes. Au moins, si on fait l'effort de discerner les mots apparentés.

Lately I've been finding Russian rather beautiful phonetically, especially after listening to some Arkona. :-D
