Lots of people have achieved near-native accents in Chinese after the age of 2, just look at people like Dashan (a Canadian guy) who only started learning it when he was in his early twenties I believe and can more or less pass as a native. Also Chinese people whose first language isn't Mandarin. I've also been mistaken for a native over the phone, and I didn't begin learning till I was about 14.Ša-Par-Artavak wrote:
As for Chinese, I've got a friend who speaks Mandarin fluently. According to him I'm actually pretty good at pronouncing it, although nobody who starts learning it over the age of 2 can talk in it without an accent. I think it's just fun to wrangle your way around tones. As for Cantonese, I'm unfamiliar but from what I heard I think I prefer Mandarin. That's not to say Cantonese is bad-sounding at all, of course. Mandarin just has a better flow.

I specified Mexican Spanish because it's the only variant of Spanish that I've heard (being that I live in the southern US). I don't know if Castillian Spanish sounds remotely similar. But in any case, Spanish (that is, Mexican Spanish), sounds like rapid-fire chihuahuas hyped up on too much espresso.

Obviously. Because that's not Castilian, nor any other Spanish dialect.

Izambri wrote:Obviously. Because that's not Castilian, nor any other Spanish dialect. XD

Lately I've been finding Russian rather beautiful phonetically, especially after listening to some Arkona.
