Thanks for the saithe word ...i haven't heard that since 4th grade and I for some reason thought that it was spelled sath and that it was a species of dinosaur. ("Look at those *sath go!") I am not sure how that word ended up in the vocabulary of my classmate, particularly since it seems to be more common in British English . In America the dominant word for that fish is probably "pollock".

Also, is the plural invariant? Wiktionary suggests it adds an -s.

I just learned the word "vore". I would never have guessed that vorarephilia was such a common paraphilia that you would need a shortening of it.

Well as an amateur linguist it bothers me to have such a hideous word, not to mention difficult to spell. How do I pronounce it? Why are we using the infinitive? And why a Latin word, when many a Greek one would do?

I say its high time vore practitioners joined with the salirophiles to create better names for their interests .

Yay! Chastising people because of their fetishes is way too oldschool, now we gotta chastise people because of the names of their fetishes! :D

If odaxelagnia had a monosyllabic version I'd be saved.

Guys, I hate to burst your bubbles, but vore is clearly a nominalization of the suffix -vore as in "carnivore" and "herbivore," much like how ism is sometimes used to mean "ideology or belief system." It's not a shortening of a Latin term nobody's heard of, or a Latin infinitive (which would be vorare).

Dont worry, there's a fetish for that :P

Also, tbh, it didnt occur to me that the -vore in "carnivore" etc was the same morpheme as in vorarephilia, but now it seems obvious.

Trump's recent stand on NAFTA has gotten people on the radio to talk about its effects on ag (agriculture) here (among other economic fields).

I recently heard "CLI" (command line interface) pronounced as /kli/ too.

I recently heard SPA (single-page application) pronounced the same as spa, /spɑ/.

Not going to search the whole thread to see if these have appeared already, but I was reading about geology yesterday and came across:

vug small cavity formed inside a rock.
gangue waste substances occurring in metallic ore.
