Nae?

What's with all these 'nae's in the user names? Yiuel Raumbesranae, ol bofoshnae, and Naelector Dark, for example.

Well this board only has 3 people on it, who like to post as different accounts so we don't feel alone, and we run out of ideas sometimes.

I have a strange feeling that something else might be going on. Has the system been hacked?

YES, it was hacked but I think spinn's fixed it now.
If I stop posting out of the blue it probably is because my computer and the board won't cooperate and let me log in.!

If you really must assimilate me, I would prefer something like "Naeratus" which means "smile" in Estonian.

Also, is it purely coincidental that -nae is used in many Verdurian place names, such as Dracnae, Feinae, and Sarnae?

That's probably just the feminine plural of n-stem nouns, c.f. our world's Taginae, Cannae, Sopianae, Agrippinae, Gratianae, etc.

I just found out that it is from the Cadhinor 'naure' (land). I wonder if it is ultimately derived from Tolkien, as 'nore' means 'land' in Quenya.

Acceptable. Your Nae designation is your choice, but it must be Nae. You will be assimilated.

I suppose so. Although maybe Nae called himself that because of that. Who knows, eh?

< Cev> My people we use cars. I come from a very proud car culture-- every part of the car is used, nothing goes to waste. When my people first saw the car, generations ago, we called it šuŋka wakaŋ-- meaning "automated mobile".

Zomp likes deriving words in his conlangs from other languages, but I'd not expect him to use Quenya. Latin is more likely for Caďinor.

Maybe some people just like the sound of the diphthong /ae/, or the monophthongs /æ/ or /ɛ/.

Unfortunately though, Nae is historically a shortening of Naeddyr, so AFAIK it's /naɪ/, or /nae/ or whatever.
