Hi, I'm a fan of this work so far with a request for the OP: a few pages back you mentioned that somehow the fish entry got deleted. Some enterprising sentient or another managed to save the graphics, but the listing of what's what did get eaten by the board. Would you please, if you have time to spare from creating new content, re-post the fish?
Thanks,
P

As requested, fish! Again! In case anyone was worrying, nothing was lost except a bit of post formatting and editing notes for readability. I have local copies of everything, because I'd be completely crazy to keep a project this big solely in a forum thread.

...Aaaand non-coniferous trees!

Dividing up plants is hard because there are so fucking many. I've ended up basing things on the fruit (in the botanical sense) they produce, which I will hopefully be able adapt to the rest of the flowering plants and save a bit of work. Meaning a large range of quite different trees under each category, and many categories I don't even know how to name.

Image

grj̀ʔ - Trees

gvr̀jʔ -Capsule Tree (Kinesis)

Trees bearing dry hard pods containing multiple small seeds. Represented by the eucalyptus.

gvv̄ʔ - Palm (Metamorphosis)
Palm trees, represented by the coconut palm.*

gvŕʔ - Nut Tree (Crisis)
Trees bearing nuts. Represented by the oak.

grv̄v - Citrus Tree (Anthesis)
Trees bearing fruit with easily peeled rind and multiple seeds. Represented by the orange.

grŕv - Berry Tree (Genesis)
Trees bearing fruit with thin skin and multiple seeds (usually botanical berries or pomes). Represented by the apple.

gj̀v - Fig (Nemesis)
Trees bearing fruit full of densely packed seeds. Represented by the fig.

gv̄r - Mulberry (Synthesis)
Trees bearing aggregate, raspberry-like fruit.

gŕr - Pod Tree (Telesis)
Trees bearing bean-like seed pods. Represented by the acacia.

qvj̀r - Kapok (Analysis)
Trees bearing pods containing fluffy fibers. Represented by the ceiba.

qvv̄j - ??? (Ascesis)
Trees bearing fruit with a thick, hard rind or shell and a fleshy interior. Represented by the baobab.

qvŕj - ???? (Physis)
Trees bearing accessory fruit with external seeds. Represented by the cashew.

qrj̀j - Samara Tree (Noesis)
Trees bearing winged seeds. Represented by the maple.

qrv̄n - ??? (Gnosis)
Trees bearing fluffy seeds not contained in a visible pod or capsule. Represented by the willow.

qrŕn - Drupe Tree (Stasis)
Trees bearing fleshy fruit with a single seed or pit (usually botanical drupes). Represented by the olive.

*I might have to justify this one by making all Vanan palms bear coconut-like fruit.

I have skipped over Anthesis' "herbs" for the moment, because that will be a huge dustbin taxon :P

I also have a horrible feeling my research here has been too patchy/focused on crops. If anyone can think of a bulbous/tuberous/corm etc. plant that is a forb and not a vine, epiphyte or water plant and doesn't reasonably fit in any of these categories, please let me know. Especially if it has a fruit type I haven't covered (capsule, berry, fluffy, nut and pod are the ones I have covered).

sjŕt - Potato (Genesis)
Tuberous nightshades, including potato and mandrake. Also Tacca and Ulluco.

xvv̄jt - Ginger (Nemesis)

I've been watching this over the past couple months. Great work; very original; keep it up.

And, haha, salsify, that's awesomely obscure.

I particularly like the way these Geophytes are like stylized versions of scientific diagrams, as a kind of perfect version of the plant, with the flowers, leaves and roots carefully illustrated and arranged aesthetically.

Not happy with these. Styles too mixed, categories terrible.

I'm leaning towards doing a major reorganization of plant categories, shifting algae/seaweed to Genesis, tubers to Anthesis and... see where I can go from there.

This is on hiatus for now, but by no means dead (yet). I've been ill for a while and just haven't had the reserves of sustained concentration I need to research and put together the lists.
