I generally forget to say, so if it's relevant and I don't mention it--I'm from Southern Michigan and speak Inland North American English. Yes, I have the Northern Cities Vowel Shift; no, I don't have the cot-caught merger; and it is called pop.

'Asian islands' aren't a language area (I see little correspondence between andamanese, ainu and tagalog). In contrast, 'south america' is definitely a language area. Just look at the many unrelated Amazonian languages that do have a lot of features in common with each other.
If you would ask south-east-asian islands then yes that is a language area.

I don't think Sprachbund and language area are synonyms. I prefer the latter anyway as it's more vague. Let's loosely define it as 'a larger area in which the languages, even when unrelated, somewhat resemble each other in some aspects, especially in those aspects that are uncommon in languages outside the area'.
It is spoken on the island of New Guinea. Is New Guinea considered part of Asia? I don't know. And Wikipedia at least used to say that Kazakhstan is in Europe, so I don't trust it, so finding out would take more than thirty seconds.
It's the first version of the orthography I found. It is a version of an official orthography, designed by a linguist who wrote a lot of papers about the language. I don't know if it's the most recent revision or if it's used in practice or any of that.

Depends on who you ask. When it comes to sports, it's in Europe (UEFA) for football, but for many other sports and competitions it's a member of the Asian associations.
