Venting thread that still excludes eddy (2)
Re: Venting thread
I have now been gripped with the fear that I have schizophrenia like my brother. Again. Now I'm losing my fucking mind over the fact that I sometimes spontaneously say word salad sentences to myself to calm myself down (I don't really know how to explain it, these sentences are grammatically correct and everything but they make zero sense logically). That and my paranoia...which is the root of all this.
Sigh.
Why the fuck couldn't I have been normal? Why did I have to be born as a half-black possibly-schizophrenic ADHD bisexual with an utterly fucked up sexuality, massive anxiety issues, a complete lack of drive and ability to manage time, and social awkwardness? If there is a God then that worthless fuckhead specifically designed me to be fucked up. And there's no way some benevolent god would design someone just to make them suffer. No wonder I'm an atheist.
God dammit, the summer began and I'm being a depressed and paranoid idiot. I need to take up a hobby, write, do something instead of worrying whether or not I'm gonna lose my mind in two years.

Re: Venting thread
I recommend, sans irony or sarcasm or anything, running. It has done wonders for me when I've been in a bad place emotionally. Plus, it has been proven to be about as effective at depression and other stuff as meds, and it won't kill your boners.
It's quite likely lack of exercise is to blame for a lot of mental health stuff: we're savanna animals, runners and hunters and fleers, we're i'll equipped to be the sit-every-day-ers we've become.

I actually love to run and walk around and frequently do it whenever I can. During my college classes I'd just walk and run around the campus for like 2 hours a day.

Re: Venting thread
I like working on conlangs while I'm at the coffee shop, and I've usually spent about 2 hours per visit doing that, but since this shop changed over to a new wi-fi service, I cannot get Wikipedia to load properly, which I use for minor research while I'm working on my conlangs.
I'm not sure how to fix the problem, there doesn't seem to be a similar issue reported on help forums anywhere.
At first the issue affected the auto-popup login window, and it would take at least 10 minutes or more to finally log on. That particular issue seems fixed now, but I just can't use Wikipedia. It'll sometimes load certain pages, but most of the time they are all formatted wrong, or it just gives up trying to reach Wikipedia at all.
Could this be an issue with my settings? I know my computer has IPv6 set up, and maybe that's the issue? The wifi router here is 802.11g, so it's possible that it doesn't load properly because it's an older standard?

you mean getting all tired and sweaty, or does it hurt your joints and stuff ?
Re: Venting thread
I get sick pretty often. It's rarely serious, but it still means I feel shitty for a couple of days. I call in sick for a day or two whenever it happens. I used to be self-employed, so I didn't have this luxury before. The HR department of my current employer, however, seems to think I call in sick too often, because today they sent a doctor to my house to check if I was actually sick, at a time I was not actually supposed to work yet. That's the second time they've done that. I was actually in the waiting room of my own doctor, so now I have to go over to the doctor my work sent tonight to have him confirm that I'm actually sick, even though my own doctor came to that conclusion less than an hour ago.
I was planning to only stay home today and go back to work after the weekend, but because the incredible confidence my company's HR department has in me, I might call my doctor on Monday and say that things haven't improved. I'm sure they'll send another doctor to check on me.

Re: Venting thread
Well, only running can solve that problem. your normal male can go from can't run a kilometer to half a marathon no problem in about a year, give or take. And first-day-of-running-in-years tired is a lot less pelasant than been-running-for-two-months tired.
it does get better, corny as it sounds XD
I really should start running again, myself.

Re: Venting thread
getting sweaty is the entire point if running you lazy buns !
I myself don't do any firm of sports. I realize this is bad, and any reason not to is an excuse, but still I have good excuses I think.
1. Running wi ll greatly hurt my knee joints. I do not think it's natural for those little knees to carry something my weight while running on an asphalt surface.
2. Cycling is something I enjoy, but I would need to cycle enormous distances in order to have enough exercise.
3. swimming I also enjoy but it is expensive
4. I could get a university sports card but it ids still expensive and I loathe going to the gym.

No, the point of running is to keep yourself active, probably to lose weight (and keep it lost). If I wanted to get sweaty, I'd go live somewhere like Florida.sirdanilot wrote:getting sweaty is the entire point if running you lazy buns !

Re: Venting thread
You must really be a fast cyclist! NHS guidelines are for 150 minutes per week of casual cycling (so 20 minutes per day, plus an extra 10 on sundays, say). Or only 75 minutes if you cycle fast or up hills. Assuming that this is all your weekly activity, of course.sirdanilot wrote:getting sweaty is the entire point if running you lazy buns !

They also suggest two sessions of muscle-strengthening exercises per week. This can probably be done at home without any specialised equipment.

I think sirdanilot may have the running track confused with the wet sauna. (IME, only one of those allows full nudity, but things might be different in the Netherlands.)

Re: Venting thread
I have never met anyone for who sweating was any part of the point of exercise. Most people view it as an unavoidable but undesirable side-effect. Maybe things are different in the Netherlands, which is apparently a fascinating country with a very... specific... culture, but in the UK there is actually widespread use of 'anti-perspirant' products to reduce sweating. In the UK, the smell and appearance of sweat, and indications of sweating (stains on clothing, for example), are typically regarded as unpleasant and unsociable, rather than as things to be sought after. But certainly cultures do differ from one another in many ways.

Re: Venting thread
dude do you even biology? if you don't sweat when exercising do you have any idea what happens ?
Re: Venting thread
evidently nothing. I just worked out some and didn't break a sweat: it helps when it's chill out. ignorance is more graceful when it's not painted as arrogant know-it-all-ness, man. for sirius.

You do hear people say that 'if you didn't break a sweat, you didn't try hard enough' when it comes to exercise. I can imagine those words coming from the mouths of any uninformed, over-eager sports coach.
But Torco is absolutely right, of course. You can stimulate your muscles or get your heart rate up without breaking a sweat. Plus, some people just break a sweat a whole lot quicker than others.
