Tattoo #6: Epithet of Caloteon

Questions or discussions about Almea or Verduria-- also the Incatena. Also good for postings in Almean languages.

Tattoo #6: Epithet of Caloteon

Post by Neek »

My right wrist has now become dedicated to the 2nd Pantheon of Cadhinorian Paganism, and I need to follow the Caloteon carving on my arm with his epithet, my only problem is I don't think < druk uestu? > is a complete epithet.

And for your viewing pleasure, pictures of the "Caloteon carving" tat:

Who do you get to do your tatoos?
The man of science is perceiving and endowed with vision whereas he who is ignorant and neglectful of this development is blind. The investigating mind is attentive, alive; the mind callous and indifferent is deaf and dead. - 'Abdu'l-Bahá

My friend Lief does my tattoos these days. My two Avestan tats were done before I (re)met Lief, but I'll be down there next week to get the epithet done.

So far, I think I shall use the first line of his description, as I know not any epithets (like the kind you see in the Iliad, i.e. Apollo shoot-afar, son of Atreus Agamemnon shepperd of men, etc.), "The Sun, Lord of Day and Summer, Friend of Man" in Cadhinorian. Simply black lettering, nothing fancy.

Whoops, I forgot about this thread. I am, of course, always in favor of permanent bodily alterations in Almean languages. I haven't really worked out any other godly epithets... you're welcome to invent something.

I do suggest you post the text here first... it'd be embarrassing to have to go back and tattoo in spelling corrections.

< L?NOMAIS, SANNO DENNEI ER AESTAI, LESOS URESTUI > would be the tattoo if I were to get that, "The Sun, Lord of Day and Summer, Friend of Man," however I don't feel that's respective of Calto enough; he's the sun god afterall, he needs something more noble... Give me a few days, I'll think of something good.

Addendum: Zompist, though it is not published online yet, I can still hazard a guess that it does exist: Is there anything in an unpublished, or even yet fully translated, copy of the Adhivro that details some great deed of Caloteon? Or is what is on the Almean Beliefs page the most we have of the Cadhinorian? If so, that means I might have to draft my own...
