Need help with the Practical Guide

Post by JeddyFroe »

I don't need help with the language, but more with the html. Due to my slow internet access, I decided to save the pages to my hard drive for easier access(I hope that's okay with you, zompist; if not, let me know and I'll delete them).

Anyway, the way they were saved, they still all attempt to link to the website when I click on the links, and the images for the pages are in separate folders. Is there any way to correct this without having to go in and edit the html of each file?

I think this is because you saved it as a complete web page (I assume you have IE?). If you save it as HTML only, it should work.

afaik you can only solve it by diving into the world of HTML... which may be a pain if you don't know it. Perhaps a browser has some fancy way of downloading pages so that they all link correctly though, no idea.

I'm not sure what you did; the html for the pages does not have external links. You should probably start over, viewing the source for each page (in IE that's Source on the View menu) and saving that. That gives you the html without any odd intrusions. If you want the full experience, download the pictures into the same area you saved the .htm pages.

You can always make local copies of anything on my site-- or any other site. That's what your browser does, after all.

Thank you for your suggestions. I used Pharazon's idea, and it worked nicely. :)

A problem might occur when saving the images into the same folder. If the original HTML specifies that the images are in a folder (for example, /images/blah.html), and I think most (or all) of Zomp's images are in seperate folders.

Well, I don't think they are, because I saved them to the same folder as the HTML, and they worked nicely.

Some are, but the vast majority are just on good ol' Zompist.com.
