Depends on what you mean by "community". Do you mean the number of people who can speak Verdurian fluently? These do not necessarily constitute a "community" since they're mostly not in regular communication.

If on the other hand you simply mean the people who are avidly interested in Almea, the membership list of this board could be a rough guide.

As far as how many Verdurian speakers there are in Almea, I know Zomp's put a figure to it but I can't remember where it is. I'm sure Glenn will know :).

I think I saw 55 million somewhere, but I'm sure most of them are in Almea. The number on Earth would be quite a bit less. I'm not sure how accurate the board membership would be. There are probably a lot of people who frequent the other forums without being that interested in Verduria.

Indeed, not everyone here is a fan. Look at my anti-fanfics, for example

Yeah. I wanted call myself 'avidly interested' in Almea. I've read through most of Zomp's stuff at least once, and I think very highly of it all, but for a long time the only bit of Zompist.com that mattered to me was the Language Construction Kit, and it was quite a while before I 'discovered' the rest of the site.

I suppose I should be honored that some people consider me the Memory of Almea...

The introduction to Mark's Verdurian grammar gives the figure of 55 million speakers, but Mark once wrote in a long-ago post that this figure is in fact probably too large--the real population of the Plain should be about half as much (c. 27 million). Verduria itself has a population of about six million, as mentioned on the Kingdom of Verduria page in the Drilldown.
