It's the most fun you'll have with your clothes on this holiday season: a visit to Tokyo's traffic control centre.

Almost as sexy: this video about metalosis maligna.

Tariq Ali writes about the "grotesque feudal charade" in post-Benazir Pakistan.

Not to doubt you, but if I recall correctly to get 34, in addition to having no moral standards, you'd have to be a very tall body-building martial arts master who's been in many fights. Sweet.

This seems pretty cool.

Meet Forever Landfill, keeping your trash out of sight and out of mind.

A great collection of animated gifs. Be sure to check out the "military signals" gif, which is like a military counterpart to the Zompist phrasebook.

The always-entertaining Buffalo BEAST's 50 Most Loathsome People in America feature, if you haven't seen it yet.

An amusing collection of bizarre celebrity baby names.

And a Kircher Society classic: Quin's Atlas of Universal History.

Forever Landfill knows your discerning eye does not want to sacrifice quality to conform to environmental regulations.
I doubt the legality of what they are doing...

(Of course, the Forever Landfill site is satire.)

It may sound like the premise for a kick-ass comic book, but it's actually news: the Pope's exorcist squads are gearing up for battle. (I was surprised to discover that exorcism has an entry on the Howstuffworks site.)

A surprising, disturbing eye-opener of an article about the historical role of democracies as innovators of modern torture techniques.

This sitar version of Sweet Child O' Mine is indeed sweet.

Before the exorcist squads do anything they'll have to defeat the pope first.

No, I think he's on the last level, after the crusher traps and the Mutant Palatine Guard.

The saddest fashion magazine ever, via the Tokyo Damage Report, which has jam-packed archives of Japan-related weirdness and diverting chronicles of rawk shows and other events.

What have you changed your mind about?, a question asked of a diverse range of scientists and intellectuals. Lots of fascinating answers (EDIT: okay, some are frustrating and inane -- hello David Brin -- but there's still lots of interesting stuff there).

I'm not tall (1.78m) but bulky, and have learned to use my weight in a fight. Not martial arts master, apparently you only need 2-3 years of instruction. And I have been in >10 serious fights in my life. Two where my life was seriously threatened.

About 2 hours long, an interesting movie about similarities between religions through the ages and/or other things.

EDIT: You'll probably not like it if you profess an Abrahamic religion.

EDIT #2: Oh jeez now they're going into OMG 9/11 WAS STAGED territory.

Yeah. We had a thread about that thing in Ephemera. I think "kookery" was pretty much the verdict.

Ten Gorgeous Pilgrimage Sites, from mental floss.

I've spend many an hour cursing his name, but even I have to admit this Bill Gates video is some funny stuff.

Cool automata installation: The Doctor's Dilemma.

Secret photos of voyeurs in Japan's public parks.

AP stringer imprisoned for two years without trial on charges of "terrorism."

Here's a cheery one: secret photographs of the Dachau death marches.

Amusing MeFi spoof, MetaFilter in the ruins.

Looks like we get our flying cars after all. Thanks, Moller! And it's about damned time.

Reserve your spot in Heaven with confidence.

And it'll continue to be about damned time for a long time yet. Moller is the cold fusion of flying cars - they've been around for ages, and have nothing to show for it except a few blurry photos and an obviously fake plaster cast of a foot-print.

That is worrisome. And apparently, I don't have a soul. Cuz if I did, it would have died reading that...

This is pretty normal for the internet really. Just a combination of obsessiveness (which you should be well aware of) and Rule 34 (which you should also be well aware of).

The heartbreak of fatal hilarity, nine cases of life imitating art. One of them even involves John Cleese.

A complete guide to the largest book in the world, the Codex Gigas or "Devil's Bible."

Perhaps this belongs in the "old Granny" thread: an online guide to Medieval cookery.
