LCK Book

Post by Yiuel Raumbesrairc »

So yeah, I just had to comment on that news :

http://www.zompist.com/lckbook.html

I am happy, and I might indeed buy the book, just because I appreciate zomp's work.

Now, when will Babblers come out? :P

Congratulations on your forthcoming book, Mark! Looking forward to the semantics and pragmatics chapters already.

Good timing, too, what with the Avatar wave crashing around us.

So when are we going to see your Almea novels in print?

(Also, if Yonagu Books are using CreateSpace then a Kindle version should be no problem - both versions are created from the same file, I believe. Though for the widest coverage of hardware you'd probably need an .epub version in addition to Kindle's .azw format. $9.99 seems to be the popular pricing point for eBooks at the moment.)

First he makes the LCK and starts a conlang community. Then he gives out the LCK in book form with four times more material and makes us all want to buy it. Zomp, you're almost a cult leader by definition. :P

You wouldn't be so kind to let us members have a little discount?

Every follower of Zomp just HAS to buy the conlanging manifesto, to get it at discount prices is complete and utter heresy.

A couple of questions:

- What is the significance of the cover picture?
- Will this be available through local flavours of Amazon?

That's right! I'm definitely going to buy it, even from the US if need be. But it would be great if I could order it from Amazon.co.uk or even Amazon.de.

Who's writing the World Construction Kit? Also Zompist? Or is it based on Bricka's work? And when will that be published?

And, while I'm asking, what are the other two books about?

In celebration, I'm changing my avatar to Connie the Contortionist Conlanging Conger Eel, and I'm definitely buying this.
I also can't wait to see the director's commentary...although, maybe in the second edition, you could do the commentary on Elkarîl?

And, if this hasn't been said enough, Zompist we love you.

Now I better rush to fix the few remaining mistakes in my translation of the LCK... Very nice indeed, Mr Zompist :) I wonder whether it'll be on stock at Amazon.de and for how many Euros (€20 probably because of import fees).

I e-mailed Zomp with a proposal to translate it into Verdurian as soon as it comes out. Then we could have, I dunno, a special edition in Soa Sfahe.

You know, that might be a fun project: Create a con-religion with Zompist a the great deity (or top guru or something); complete with a holy book, rituals, feast days, and everything else a real sect needs.

Hey, is Zomp actually running Yonagu books?
www.yonagu.com wrote: Upcoming works include:
The Language Construction Kit by Mark Rosenfelder (March 2010)
In the Land of Babblers
AD 4901
The World Construction Kit
I know he's written the first 3, and I'm almost certain he's behind the fourth. Plus, "Yonagu" is Wede:i for "Language man"--basically-- and the last glyph in the icon is the Wede:i syllable for "gu". The other bit doesn't seem to appear.

I expect that I will some day buy a copy of it too.

I will probably wait for the hardcover edition; I so do love hardcover books. I also like to be sure that most of my library can serve as bludgeons. A book of 270 pages at the given dimensions should be adequate to fend an attack by a housecat or a small to medium child off .

Does anyone know if he did all the illustrations himself? Or did he hire someone good?

I'll happily buy the book. I'm pleased to have the opportunity to support a guy who's done so much for the conlanging community. I agree print on demand is a solid way to go; I already know a few people who've had some good financial success with it. If you're offering something that speaks to people, word of mouth is a powerful thing online.

Thanks for the warm response; as La Rouchefoucauld said, “Les tributs les plus sincères sont ceux qui sont accompagnés d'un somme de $14.95.“

As for local Amazons, er, I think so... obviously many of you are non-US and I'll do what it takes.

Hardcover would probably be done at Lulu; their pricing is kind of insane. (Basically they figure out a manufacturing price much like Amazon's— then double it. They priced themselves out of the paperback version.)

Kindle requires HTML format while everything else takes PDF, so that's a hassle.
