I would have been all over this if I didn't already have it in my language. I love the feeling of that word, for some reason (probably thanks to Welsh hiraeth).

I'm trying really hard to find any situation when such a word would be used... Does any natlang have this?

That doesn't seem quite in the spirit of the thread. It would probably be easier to keep things going if we don't suggest things that involve fine grammatical distinctions many langs may not have.

I know, but I thought you meant you wanted a noun that meant "a thing over which one has no property, but still is one's own", rather than a pronoun distinct from a possessive one.

nëuvum, which is actually just the first person pronoun in the case that I normally refer to as "dative" because that's what it normally does, but it will also take this function now since I don't have any other way to express that yet.

As for the suggestion, I thought it was a good one. There's no reason not to suggest ideas that aren't convenient words in English. Speaking of which--

next: those shivers you get down your spine that happen for no apparent reason (not caused by cold or anything obvious)

nevermind; thank you, though.

it's all yours, WurdBender.

Torco wrote: next: a thing over which one has no property, but still is one's own. [like when you say 'my city']
/ŋabihoa eyɦozine/ = This place I am a part of.
This is when one is a cog in something larger - such as, even if you are on the slowest horse in a foxhunt, you're still a part of the hunt.

But mostly, I see this word word (noun phrase?) when I think of the show Life, with the two detectives looking out over the city they protect and live in.

next: consider

Gloss:
ɦozine = cut cake {from ɦozi = cake; ʕne = cutting, cut, slice}
eyɦozine = I being a portion of. {ey- = I, 1P}
ŋabi = Locative, place.
ʘhoa = Declarative, here (in) this place.

I was going to wait longer before entering, try to smooth the edges of my latest attempt...don't worry, this post is to get the thread past what seems to be a sticking point.
