Saimiar has two words for "milk". suvi, a native word, means breastmilk , or milk in the context of feeding young. kimbe is a loanword from a neighboring culture who had cattle, and means milk from some other creature that an adult human can drink. Or probably turn into yogurt because the Saimi didn't have a whole lot of lactose tolerance.HelixWitch wrote:Moi Ku:

Mouai orrhe pīlaxeias (roughly ["muwai "or_hI pi:la"xsijas] ) - There are angels in the portico. A mouas "angel" in Tailanca thought is a higher protective spirit, although far from universally benevolent. The pīlaxeia "portico" is a synecdoche for the imperial court. Obviously, this phrase would only be used by the upper classes, opr aspirants to the upper classes. Those wanting to imply mob connections would say something like laumas os mū mis there's a hand above me..
Next up: cauldron, or any kind of large container used for cooking or heating food.

kte.ma.wo.ńii.ko.to
This came to me all at once: large pots floating just offshore, tethered to holdfasts. (I think this is what happens when my brain combines kimchi-making with the buried cooking of New Zealand with the parameter that this atoll doesn't have much spare land for cooking)
wo = hand {to emphasize that this is what's doing the grasping later}
-(ń)ii -(g)ii = marker for something which is within, which is being held. (consonant is in harmony with the initial consonant of the noun, except for semi-vowels.

Cf.
Fr. "bulle" - bubble > "Beulle" - bubble
Fr. "en-" - in > "en-" - over (generally only in senses like "overfill" or "overflow", and not "jump over")
The ending "-ig" is generally cognate with English "-ing", but a loss of /n/ before /g/ and a subsequent palatalisation change has rendered it generally pronounced /ɩʒ/. Adjectives formed from it inflect normally for gender and number.

The flower itself is ën [jen]. It doesn't represent purity or anything else, and for that matter neither does any other flower.Christoph Schrader wrote:Next word: lily, or some other flower representing purity
Purity is another complex matter altogether... Or not that complex, I guess. The word cris [kr\Is] pretty much covers most uses of the word "purity" where it is some kind of literal purity or unmixedness or just internal consistency (if you disagree with yourself your argument is not pure).

Something I use to name places in a fictional world. I call it "Olivine", pronounced /əʊləvɩn/ in RP, or something like [oʊwɫəvɩn] if I say it myself.Skomakar'n wrote:You got me interested, Christoph. What language is this?
The Germanic roots are based on a comparison of English, Dutch, and German, though a large number of borrowings from French and Italian have intruded themselves upon the lexicon. Odd borrowings from Serbian (Imia - "name"), Hungarian (Vehr - "blood"), and Albanian (Lijrre -- "account") also appear -- the result of a former fascination with Austria --, but I am considering getting rid of those.
The pronunciation given would be used in a country called Illyria (not related to the region of the Balkans typically called that -- I saw it in a Shakespeare play and liked the way it sounded, if I recall correctly, enough to use it for several successive projects that all ended up scrapped). The entire planet has the same "language", though the pronunciation can be so variable that speakers from different countries cannot always understand one another.
