I might wanna join as well, though I'd be in it more to play around with some languages ideas. I'd like somewhere on a Tundra.

Pick a spot that isn't taken yet
. I think the bottom right continent is off limits at the moment.
I think we'll have to think of some kind of deadline, before we get too far ahead.
I vote for migration plan #1 as well.

You don't say. I meant how big are the continents.Ebba Leaci wrote: The scale is an entire planet, starting from apparently prehistory and advancing from there.
Re: Anyone want to Start on a Mass Project?
Here is what I have so far:
Ifëhaşłgit Inywaknaqaatu
[ɪfəɁɑʃ:ɣt ɪɲwɑknəqɑ:tu]
Region of the Inywakna People
Climate in Seasons
In the region there isn't much of a difference between seasons. It is mainly one very long winter and a 3-4 month summer.
During summer is the time when the sun emerges from the dark winter-stricken clouds to melt the içuqça. The trees start to give birth to bright green leaves which eventually fall to the ground.
The moss starts to grow in the villages and the women and children pick them from the ground and put them on the roofs of their manykłaakena, huts, to soak the upcoming snow in the harsh winter. The leaves are also used to redecorate the cob coating of the manykłaaketł.
In the winter it rains and rains and rains. But then it starts to snow, but by snow I mean reaaaaaaaaaaaally snow. There are blizzards nearly every day but the Inywakna survive. The wool and sewn skins in the walls of the manykłaakena keep the Inywakna warm in the blizzards.
Outside it is around -25°C but inside in the hut, the temperature is raised to around 10-20°C.
The Inywakna Features
An average pureblood Inywakatł has tanned skin, double fold eyelids, blue eyes, rough long black hair, large Greek-nose with small nostrils, pointed ears, round faces and thin lips, and these all play a part in surviving out in the cold tundra and taiga.
Clothes of the Inywakna
The clothes of the Inywakna people are usually made out of skin and fur. They normally have parka hoods and leather boots, tight material is wrapped around the shins and secured in place with a variety of different teeth, brooches, buttons, and folding systems.
The colour of the clothes are usually browny coloured or white if you're an elder of your village.
Jewellery and it's Symbolism
Jewellery is a big part in Inywak culture. For the men, their ears are pierced at eight years of age and feathers are loosely sewn (so they can flap around) to small wooden circles which are carved with miniture figurines. These carvings and the feathers represent nature and it's animals and hunting.
For the women, and the priestesses (or whatever the female version of a shaman is), at the age of ten their ears are pierced with various flint pins to make way for a sabertooth tiger.... tooth. Once the girl is about thirteen years the girl will be fully gauged and will be classed as a fully grown "teen" if you like. Once she gets married, this tooth will be carved with patterns of the girl's choice and the point will be sharpened, even though you can sharpen it at any point. The tooth symbolises companionship and the spirit animal.
For a shaman, a long lip pin made out of a prasiolite quartz crystal sceptre that is found in a few caves around the "Large Mountain". A shaman trainee will travel to Large Mountain and harvest one of these quartz so that one of his friend's wives can make shape the sceptre. The leftovers of the sceptres can be made into bracelets, windchimes, and other little nick-nacks.
Weapons
There isn't much of a need of weapons because of the serenity and religious ties between villages but the basic weapons are flint longspears, arrows made of wood, bows made of cane and three strands of horse hair, tomahawks, etc.
Houses and Huts and Villages

Villages didn't really have exact positions to place their huts but the fire and the foyer municipal. In the community hut, there are sometimes feasts when then men come back from hunting on "Sundays". It also is used as an assembly hall.
On the cob of huts, patterns are usually made such as depictions of spirit animals, ancestors, and et cetera.

OK, so that I don't have to wait any longer, we're going with migration plan #1. Sorry, Cockroach.
That means my conpeople have tan skin, epicanthic folds, generally dark eyes and hair, and bigger noses already adapted to the cold place through which they first migrated.

If we went with M-PLAN #1, does that mean that my Inywakna features are realistic?

Yep, explanation:
They had to live up there for a long time before the ice could melt enough to let them go over and become Rickard's people, so they got specialized.

Then my people should look somewhat like yours, and your description basically fits mine. Only difference being that I didn't include the epicanthic folds (which I probably should have), and I'm not sure what you mean by 'bigger noses', but I guess you could say that about my conpeople too, only that I chose to describe them as 'slightly wider'.Astraios wrote:OK, so that I don't have to wait any longer, we're going with migration plan #1. Re: Anyone want to Start on a Mass Project?
So, imagine that there's a population growth in what will become Cockroach's area. Your conpeople decide "Hey, this sucks, let's walk north!" So they walk north, until they find this great big wall of cold, white stuff blocking their path. They stop, see that it's actually quite a good place to live, and think "Well, now that we're here, let's evolve epicanthic folds!" or whatever. This is what I meant.
So now they've evolved epicanthic folds. Then one day, they notice the conspicuous lack of an ice-cap to the north. A bunch of curious young men take their girlfriends on an adventure to look for the ice-cap, and discover a recently thawed sea, filled with little islands. They grab their canoes, throw their girlfriends in the passenger seat, and paddle off to explore. Eventually, they decide to settle around Rickard's area. This is what follows on from what I meant.
@*Ceresz: Bigger noses < Arctic populations who needed more nostril-space to warm up the cold air before it hits their lungs.

Then it would be logical for my people to have slightly bigger noses if they migrated from somewhere around the lower part of your are, wouldn't itAstraios wrote: @*Ceresz: Bigger noses < Arctic populations who needed more nostril-space to warm up the cold air before it hits their lungs.
Re: Anyone want to Start on a Mass Project?
Relatively speaking, of course. Your population might look vaguely Mesoamerican, i.e. they had a long ago ancestor who got adapted to a cold climate, but now they've already begun to change back to being adapted to warm(er) climates.

Note: I just realized how stupid I was not to give my people footwear. They still don't have sandals, but now they wrap their feet in cloth when the ground gets to hot or rough to walk on.
As for deadlines, we still have alot of areas left unclaimed, so unless anyone was planning on claiming a second area, or having their people expand outwards, we should let more people in.
Thanks for the resource Ebba! Great work all! I'll write more when I get home.

Carona Tai:
[kaɾ.on.ə taɪ]
Location of the Caron (the people)
Climate:
There is not a drastic difference between summer and winter, the ocean keeps the land somewhat warm in the winter, and somewhat cool during the summer. Temperatures average around 15 to 20 C in the summer, and 5 to 15 C in the winter. Average rainfall is relatively constant year round, around 100mm per Earth month, slightly higher in the winter.
Appearance:
An average Caron has moderately tan to moderately light skin, and course, straight, dark hair, with hair colors ranging from black to medium brown. Eye color is usually dark brown, almost black, though some have lighter brown eyes with occasional hazel eyes; also the eyes have epicanthic folds. The Caron have small noses, and prominent cheekbones, with noticeable fat around the cheeks. Average height is around 164cm for men, and 160cm for women.
Diet:
They have a hunter-gatherer society with mostly fixed settlements. Their main diet consists of fish or other seafood, various various small game as well as the occasional deer or elk, vegetable food includes raspberries, blueberries and huckleberries.
Structures:
Most structures are wooden buildings built like the plankhouses of the Pacific NW Native Americans, but have a general resemblance to longhouses; these houses are called carmuedef. The interior of a muedef is separated into rooms by wooden screens, and the people sleep on mats on raised platforms. Each village usually only has one muedef that everyone lives in, though may have several other smaller structures for various purposes. The buildings are primarily held together by gravity.
Culture (and Religion):
There really isn't any actual leader in the villages due to the small size of the villages, however there is a person known as the daoqon, who pretty much is a shaman. The daoqon is usually, though not always, one of the older people in the village, and they communicate with the cardaocu (spirits) through the use of fire and dancing. The cardaocu exist everywhere, and they include both spirits of nature, carrandaocu, and the spirits of dead ancestors, or carrundaocu. It is believed that keeping the cardaocu pleased will result in them helping the people to have an easier life, while the opposite would cause the cardaocu go out of their way to cause problems.
Organization:
The Caron live along the central northwestern coast of the largest continent, around the point where two large islands are found offshore. They have strong ties with other of their people, however this is largely limited to those who live on the same landmass, with weaker ties between the groups living on the two main islands or between the islands and the mainland. They primarily live near the coast where they have access to the ocean for fishing, or else live along one of the numerous rivers in the region.
Clothing:
Clothing is relatively simple, and consists of skirts or dresses made out of a cotton-like fabric, often along with a rawhide belt. These clothes are usually simple and uncolored, though the daoqon's dress or skirt is usually brightly colored. Simple footwear is also made out of rawhide, which is fashioned into a simple moccasin-type shoe, though these are usually only worn in the winter. Both genders wear the same clothing.
Weapons:
The weapons of the Caron are still relatively simple, and consist of the sifansiqof, which is a simple wooden club, the bocsiqof, which is basically an early hammer-type weapon, as well as the bimsiqof, a spear, usually tipped with bone or stone.
Protolang:
The Caron currently speak a mutually intelligible mix of dialects, with the main differences occurring between the two islands and the mainland, with each landmass speaking mostly the same dialect. The mainland dialects, in particular, have a tendency to turn plosives into fricatives intervocaly. The language is a mainly prefixing OVS languages, with a (C)V(V)(C) syllable structure.
An example of the main Simuetacar (Big Island) dialect:
Civa uba tacivlifedrun muc, intusa civpubref.
civ-a ub-a ta-civ-li-fedrun muc in-tus-a civ-pubref.
