What are you listening to? -- Non-English Edition
Re: What are you listening to? -- Non-English Edition
Arthur's theme song sounds so unnatural in English. The LORD obviously intended it to be sung in Hebrew.

Uh what. I just listened to it in Hebrew and couldn't help but burst out laughing at how ridiculous it sounded. Not to mention it was written IN ENGLISH, so that's basically like saying the Torah sounds unnatural in Hebrew, and it was obviously intended to be written/recited in English.Mr. Z wrote:Arthur's theme song sounds so unnatural in English. Disney songs are usually better in Hebrew.

I recently found some good Basque music. "Txoria txori" is pretty, especially when Joan Baez sings it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63GO1URJKOs.
For Fergus rules the brazen cars,
And rules the shadows of the wood,
And the white breast of the dim sea
And all dishevelled wandering stars.
And rules the shadows of the wood,
And the white breast of the dim sea
And all dishevelled wandering stars.

I'M NOT LEARNING BASQUE, NOT THIS TIME
(related to the fact that I began my Icelandic studies by listening to vikingmetal, nothing to do with you )

I love that song. I also love Ken Zazpi, who you should totally listen to (they also have the occasional song in Catalan, which makes them even more awesome).

The Korean versions of Disney songs (generally) are really disappointing
(Currently listening to Hakuna Matata in Korean...not the worst offender, but it's a little strange)
NE: (Okay, Can You Feel The Love Tonight is actually pretty good)
NE2: (So I'm beginning to think I just found the bad songs first, Kiss the Girl is also really good)

I love Txoria Txori, and the lyric is beautiful.

I really hate Maltese music. It's like there's an epidemic of bad singing voices in all of Malta, and no one can sing well. However, I actually really like how this sounds. Somehow, the bad singing seems to work in the non-chorus parts of the song.
EDIT: Freddie Portelli has a good voice though.

Ooh Chechen music! That song is called хьол хаза, I think. I love it, even though it's not the kind of music I'm usually into. It the language that makes it so awesome.
Re: What are you listening to? -- Non-English Edition
It's the combination of awesome language and awesome music. Actually I almost had the opportunity to learn Chechen, in exchange for helping a student from Chechnya with English last year, but we exchanged two emails and she never wrote back after that. >:( (Also if my next-door neighbour last year hadn't turned out to be such an annoying person I could have learnt from him Lezgian, Azeri, Turkish, and Russian. So many wasted opportunities!)

I didn't use to like this song, but I heard it last night at the party we had for the end of the semester at our teacher's flat and... oh my god. Once you understand the lyrics, it becomes like 100x more beautiful!

It also reminds me just how a beautiful word فؤاد is. I just love Arabic...
