Now I only have to figure out what to use those for …
1) How do you make them?
2) Royal sigils

Obviously. If not royal, at least official in some way. But I still mostly lack a conworld/-culture
Think of something
Such as post-apocalyptic Scotland, or a fantasy medieval "A Song of Ice and Fire"-like world

I designed a mount to put over the inside locking mechanism of my dorm room door. It will be fastened using existing screwholds so that I don't need to modify the door or anything. It will hold a servo and an arduino over the lock so that I can open the door from the inside. On the outside of the door will be a card reader. Attached is the design of the mount; I'm having it 3D printed.

That gauges close to 0 on the nerdiness scale.
Well, yeah, but it's way cheaper and much more likely to work
I think this is pretty likely to work. There's already a combination lock thing on the door, but for various reasons I want to let my friends in my room, but not at certain times of day. Just installing a lock wouldn't improve the situation any.
Overall this project is going to cost about $50. It's not too much to pay for awesome, if you ask me.

but children are alone and get to do what they'd like even *less*
At the macro level that's true, but they have more time to themselves, as in sitting down and writing, or playing videogames, or contemplating the leaves of trees, or shit. Of course, I know what I'm trading and I'm okay with it, or I'd stay at my part-time relaxed low-paying job-like-thing, but... I dunno, I guess I'm gonna miss all that leisure time.

no, it is precisely at the micro level where this is true. the macro-level is where you do what you are doing now and come up with some ludicrous result. children are thwarted everywhere in a million little ways by being too small or too young or too stupid or too weak to do things.
Mine currently. My schedules are a bit up in the air at the moment, though... it's all change come April because the rules are changing and a lot of students are leaving because of a price rise. Next Thursday I'm to be in at 12 and stay till 9, including breaks, but today I was in at 12:45 and stayed till 8. I'm supposed to be there an hour before my first lesson each day, or 1pm at the latest, although on Monday I've basically struck a deal with the receptionist to turn up at around 5 because the only lessons they've given me start at 6:20-7:20 and 7:20-8 for a total of 1'40" (I'm not going to waste my day by sticking around for 5 hours. Perhaps I should get a bike and then it wouldn't be so much of a problem for me just to go home in the intervening time). But sometimes they'll give me earlier "floating" lessons. And as for Sunday, I have a grand total of 1 regular student at the moment; the rest are making up for cancelled lessons or are also "floating" students. So my start and finish times aren't fixed. But it's the shortest commute because I can just get the bus which takes about 20 minutes (assuming I manage to catch the right one).
And yeah, I probably don't get 8 hours' sleep every day. A more realistic estimate of an average would be 7.
I hope I can eventually put the icons for each of the divines in. Big dots are major divines, and small dots are minor divines (offspring of major divines).
